    Hormonal headaches?

Anyone suffer from these? I have noticed in the last couple of years(cant pinpoint exactly when) that a day or 2 before my period, I get a severe headache sometime with nausea. (this time I had one after as well with nausea)

I dont know if I should call it a migraine or not. It gets pretty bad, but never to the point that I absolutely cant function. Sleep seems to help though most of the time. I dont like taking meds so I suffer through.

I really never get headaches that bad any other time of the month, other than occassionally I can predict severe storms coming. I get the same type of headache when a storm is brewing, with the exception that most of the time I dont get the nausea.

Anyone else suffer from any thing like this? I think I might start tracking them to see if there is a pattern. I had heard a change in diet might help.

Yes, hormone changes can cause migraines.
Call your doctor and seeif you can talk about hormonal changes. It could be controlled by diet, taking something away or adding something.
It could be a vitamin issue: maybe you need a supplement.

But it could also be signs of so many other things.
I personally find acupuncture helps my migraines.

    Good luck

I've experianced the same cluster type headaches at the same time. I have discussed this with my physician, and he seems to think they are caused by the onset of menopause. Not menopause itself, but the changes your body goes through in the couple years prior to the complete onset.

Track you headaches. I put a small dot on the calendar for the headache, and a "P" when I start my cycle. I also not exhaustion, as that seems to fall a week prior to the headache. Track for at least a few months, but talk to the doctor and let him know what is going on so he is aware.

In 1967, when I was pregnant with my daughter, I had my first migraine. For the following 22 years I suffered migraines every month.....before, during and after my period. I would have a migraine on one side of my head for 3 days, no pain on the 4th day and a migraine on the other side of my head for 3 days......every single month for 22 years. I had tests, xrays, tried many meds, had blood work ...you name it, I had it. Finally in 1989 things got to crisis stage in my life and I called my doc. Within 2 weeks I'd had a total hysterectomy and the headaches were totally gone within 6 mos. I haven't had a migraine since. I've had bad headaches on occasion but nothing that knocked me down like the migraines did. That's what worked for me.

You know what, it is possible mine might date back to when my DD was born. I had problems with the epidural. The anesthesiologist really did a job on me and hit the wrong spot. I was very lucky I wasnt permanently paralysed. I was so numbed I couldnt even feel to push, I couldnt even move from the waist down. My DD had to be suctioned out.

When I used to take b/c pills they gave me awful headaches. The headaches you get before a rainy spell is not due to hormones, but because of a change in barometric pressure.

I went on the b/c patch about 5 years ago, never had "hormone" headaches before that. I stayed on the patch for 2 years and the headaches got worse. I'm now on the pill and while I still get a headache the day before my period its no where near the pain as it was.
My dr said it could have been brought on due to the high level of hormones in the patch

I used to get awful migranes around my cycle, starting in junior high. Didn't know what they were at that time, and finally had them diagnosed before going to college. I didn't get them with every cycle, but often enough that I could usually anticipate them. After my hysterectomy, the migranes seldom occur. I still get them when I'm overly-tired, but even then, they are mild -- just the visuals, and a moderate headache.
