Ramstein Germany - Anyone Have any Info??

DH is probably going to get a job offer in Ramstein Germany. I tried looking up info online but can't find a whole lot about housing. Since he'd be a civilian there wouldn't be any base housing. He/we'd have to find our own place. The kids would get DoD schools though.

He's excited. I'm not. The pay is decent but still quite a bit lower than he made in Kuwait and they paid for his housing. In Germany even with the lower pay we would have to pay for housing. I'm just worried that if we all go the cost of housing will not make up for the extra cost of keeping up 2 houses. We would keep our house here. There's no way we could fit all our stuff into a place over there, we'd want to have somewhere to live when we moved back, and the market is so sucky right now that I doubt we could sell anyhow.

So anyhow, DH wants me to look into doing some number crunching. I know nothing about Germany and housing costs and every link I try to get to online won't work or won't give me any info or isn't in English. If he goes he can have a studio apartment and be fine. Another option is to get a 2 bedroom with one of his friends (who helped him get the job) and split the rent. If we all go we'd need something more. We have 2 growing boys and a cat.

Anyone have any info that can help me? Please??

No info for you. DH lived there from age 1 until he was almost 6. His mom loved it there and didn't want to leave.

I don't know much about it. It has been almost 30 years since we were in Germany. I loved it there.
Anyway I found this forum it is Germanys english speaking crowd. There is forum on this area. http://www.toytowngermany.com//forum...owtopic=103870 maybe you can post questions on there and get some answers. This is from 2008.

Here is the home page for the base:

    http://www.ramstein.af.mil/

You should be able to start there and try to get information. The base was beautiful when I was there. We would visit my daughter's godparents when they were stationed there and we were at Bitburg. The countryside is gorgeous, but you are still close to decent shopping areas and access to direct transportation.
