I have been anemic all my life and my mom jokes that during her pregnancy I was the only one she had an iron problem with said i sucked it right out of her. One year I was really really bad worse then my dr had seen it for a while and he did the stool test because he didnt know what was going on turns out I had a bleeding ulcer really bad and thats why I couldnt get my Iron levels up. Yes there is truth to it.
Dont think the doctor is trying to blow smoke up your arse when saying it. I was taking naproxin (sp) for my arthritis and thats how I got the ulcer.

Similar thing with me. My B12 was nearly depleted and my H&H really low. The FOBT showed blood, I had a gastroscopy, colonoscopy, upper GI and found out I had bleeding from damage in my colon caused by undiagnosed Crohn's disease. They have to cover all bases.

My Ortho would not give me Naproxin for that reason - that is why I take Celebrex. My Mom had to take Iron shots when she was carrying me - she said the same thing I took all her iron.

Mine is caused by heavy periods and chrone's disease. If I don't take my iron pills I can't function because I am SO tired. Like, sleep 24 hours and still be tired.
I don't think you have to worry about internal bleeding and all that, I think he just wants to makesure everything is ok
