For those who've gone through menopause!
My periods have alway been regular at every 28 days, give or take a few days, but today I noticed I'm bleeding, and I'm only on day 17 of my cycle.
What gives? I thought that as you appoach menopause your periods would come later and later, not every couple weeks (by the way, I'm 46 years old). This is weird. I'm not experiencing any other symptoms. Wait, I did blow up at my kids yesterday and that is not like me?
Oh, Hell! This is it, isn't it? Okay, give it to me straight, what else do I have to look forward to?

Irregular periods are regular in perimenopause. We have patients that have them every 2 weeks. It is very common. Some women experience frequent periods when perimenopausel while others go months at a time without them.

I'm 44 and had my first hot flash a few months ago. Obviously, the same brainiac who coined the term "'morning' sickness" (I had it ALL day long!) had a hand in the term "hot flash". Yes, I got hot, but it lasted much longer than a flash. The irregular periods have begun too. Ohhhh the joys of menopause!

Perimenopause is a pain in the arse, I tell you. Expect irregular periods with sometimes clots up to 2 years.

Ok I really don't want to call anyone a LIAR here but when they said hot flash the really meant FIRES OF HELL!!!!!! There is no such thing as a hot flash. You boil, sweat, b!tch, moan, cry all at the same damn time, then just when you think it's over BAM it repeats itself. I always try to remember (memory goes about this time too) a frozen bottle of water when I go anywhere. And remember when we complained about the frozen food aisle when we were younger causing us to complain about how cold it was......I now shop ALOT in those aisles they are my only true and trustworthy friends, they never ask us if it's "normal" to sweat like that.....the aisles also appreciate me opening the doors and just looking at the shelves even if I don't like TV dinners. Just remember ladies if you don't need it don't wear it, less is best when the "FIRES OF HELL" arrive. Cotton seems to help alittle but nudity (UGH I look like Shar pei/hippo mix)is a sure fire relief. Hope this helps you all!

I'm 52 and have had like 2 hot flashes in the last 2 years(at least I guess that's what they were). I woke up soaking wet--but have only had 2, so don't know. My periods have always been so regular, but now I don't know when they will come--nice not having them, but hate everything else that goes with it. And what about the extra HAIR? How do you all keep it off your face--yuck!!! I have mostly light colored hair, but some on my chin and my "mustach" is dark, dark, dark. I'm thinking I may go get laser done, but not sure I can afford it. Any suggestions?

Okay, that freaked me out. Tell me something, though. Is it true that if your mother didn't have hot flashes, that you have a good chance of not getting them either? That would be a great thing to inherit from her.

Not necessarily. My mom was a raving lunatic when she got them. I get an occasional one and deal. My sisters get them occasionally as well. I'm in the midst of perimenopause myself so when patients call me I can have a lot more empathy for them then I did 10 years ago. I find that I am more sentimental and cry over every sad story I read or see on tv.
I thought that I was actually going to be in full menopause soon as I went without a period for 7 months. (It has to be 12 months to be considered menopause) Well the last 3 months I've had them right on time. Last year I had bleeding almost daily for 3 months and was scheduled for an endometrial ablation then I ended up in the hospital with Crohn's complications. Fortunately it stopped and now I'm just waiting for the day to be done with it.

I'm 48, and have had 'odd' periods for the past three... I've had regular periods since I was around 15. That's 33 years !! Seems for the last three cycles, I've skipped a month, I'm having periods every other month. The HOT FLASHES byte, I pretty much just stay hot. I assume I am perimenopausal.
It all bytes... getting older is not for sissies ! LOL!
Lots of luck !!
