found: box from jewelry store with necklace

I found a box from Kay Jewelers (hinge type), and inside it was a necklace with a figure 8 shape pendant.

On the pendant are 5 tiny sapphires and 5 tiny diamonds set in what is marked as "14k wh"

I think that is 14K white gold??

Question for anyone who has done this...

does it cost to get it appraised? If so, how much (or does it vary)? Do you make an appointment or just show up?

    about $85.

    Is this the design? http://www.kay.com/webapp/wcs/stores...53.15065.15132

If it was lost, I would be trying to find the rightful owner....

Call a jeweler and ask them if they appraise and how much they charge. When I kicked my ex out I took my wedding set down to a local store and they appraised it for nothing.

it looks similar to that, but only has 5 of each stone...and it says 14K wh on the back -- the picture posted is 10K

it wasn't a "lost" type item... it was at the bottom of a box of stuff that I bought at a "eviction sale" at a U-store facility...

basically people who don't pay for their storage units after a certain time, they auction off the contents... I snagged 1 unit of stuff for under $80.00... most of it was crap and trash...but I just went through several more large boxes and stumbled across this little jewelry box.

    K

If you read the description, there are only 5 of each stone. They dont have that style in 14k listed currently on their website.

When looking at the sapphires, are they a bright blue or a dark blue? when you hold them up to the light, can you see into them? Does the table of the stone(the cut on the very top) look smooth or like it was cut? And if you can see into the stone, do you see any little "cracks" inside?

    Can you post pics? lol

    lol...

they look beveled on the top, both the diamonds and the sapphires... like my diamond wedding band.

they are a mix of colors -- 3 lighter blue -- like transluscent and 2 very dark almost black.

camera is elsewhere or I would post pics. LOL

thank you for the help though -- I guess I will call the jeweler tomorrow.

    Nice!

I must say I hae often been tempted to bid on a storage auction, bt have neer dared. I thought maybe the storage buisness owners went in a salvaged what they wanted.

My Dh's Uncle lost all his stuff from not paying his bill....the unit went for
$250ish. If I lived in FL I would have bid on it in a heartbeat. Items I KNow it contained: a less than six month old puter, a whole bunch a beatles collectibles including all their orginal albums in almost mint condition! Goodness knows what else there was. My dh was supposed to inherit those albums....BooHoo

my ex-father in law did that a few years ago - we picked through and took what we wanted, he had a yard sale and still made a couple thousand off of it

most local jewlery stores will appraise it without charging if you walk in, if you call and ask they will probably give you a price amount to appraise it, at least thats what I have expierenced in the past.

Congrats on your find! I asked for baby stuff for my niece on freecycle over the summer and a lady who owns a storage place offered for my niece and I to go through one of the storage units that someone abandoned that had baby stuff in it, she let us go through the whole unit and take what we wanted and my niece found a really nice 14k gold diamond ring and it appraised over thousand dollars! Plus my niece was able to get tons of furniture, kitchen items, bread machine and a ton of like new baby things.
