Yay, the house behind me is being fixed up!

The house directly across the alley from me was foreclosed on months ago. The former owners TRASHED the place before they left. Smashed out every window, ruined drywall, doors, even left water running in the bathroom that overflowed all thru the house. The outside is atrocious too. This WAS a really nice home. Well its been sitting there boarded up and making the rest of us on the block PO'd-just waiting for junkies to take over etc. Today I happened to look out my family rm window and noticed that there were sheriff's cars in the alley and saw that they were all walking around the backyard of this house. Then a panel van shows up and they all leave. I notice a few guys walking around inside the house. So when I took the garbage out I saw one of them in the backyard and I asked him if he bought the house. He said no that the bank that owns the house hired his company to FIX THE HOUSE UP! He said everything is going to be replaced before it goes on the market. I was so happy that I just baked some cookies and took them over to them.

We all got on our aldermans case about this house and his office was trying to get the bank to fix it up. Must have been sucessful for once. LOL So now I am going to bring the aldermans office cookies too!
    Keep your chin up!

Great for you! I have a similar situation. The couple in their 30's next door were getting divorced and going through foreclosure. The bank took the house back but before they could sell it they had to remove so much furniture, junk, etc. About a month ago someone bought the place and they are busy renovating the inside. One guy told me it was such a mess. I've been watching them work, tearing out all the carpets and vinyl flooring, toilets and tubs, kitchen cabinets, drywall, etc. The couple that lived there had a 6 year-old daughter and a huge Boxer dog named Max. Max was so sweet but when they would chain him outside to "do his business" no one ever cleaned it up. On nice days we couldn't open the windows and when we'd open the back door at least a dozen flies came in. I called codes about it several times but they just didn't care how many times they were cited. I miss the kid and the dog - hey, he couldn't clean up after himself - it was his irresponsible owners and I am so happy to see them gone. I hope when it goes back up for sale that someone really nice moves in.

that is great. I know some cities have houses just sitting empty and they are in horrible condition. We had about 15-20 houses get forclosed on about a year ago. Now thank goodness they are being lived in and cared for.
