I had one once. Nasty, nasty, nasty! They're soft, slimy and salty and have the most horrible smell that you'll never forget (DH says they smell like dirty laundry)! It seems like almost everywhere you go around here all you smell is those peanuts. I'll stick to the roasted ones.

I believe its more of a southern thang. I LOVE boiled peanuts and NO we don't eat them like mashed potatoes LOL.
Homemade is def. the best. I throw some pickled jalapeno's in the pot while they boil for a more spicy flavor.

I am East Coast but tried them in Georgia when traveling cross country. I loved them and always beg anyone going to the South to bring me some. I only eat them as a snack - not mixed with anything.
NOW I want some - you are just mean to bring them up!

I don't like the ones in the cans or the ones sold in the crock pots in the stores. They are cooked too long and they are too big. Everyone has their likes and dislikes, though. I can imagine it does seem kind of strange if you haven't grown up eating them.
Yep the homemade ones are yummy!....for snackin here too!

Now that I live in Georgia, I have learned ALOT about these boiled peanuts, that I call "slugs"...lol. They stink, they are gross to look at and they are soft. YUCK! My oldest son doesn't lke them. But my youngest son and dh LOVE them. It doesn't matter if they are in a can or sold from a guy on the corner. You can buy them everywhere here. EWWWW...did I mention I think they are gross??? LOL. I do know that no one eats them with a meal, they are eaten as a snack. I should say no one I ever heard of eats them as a meal. I do know if you don't like them, the natives think you are "weird"...lol.
The more you complain, the longer God makes you live.

I get them here when we go to the flea market. I like them as long as they aren't too salty. I tried cooking them myself but they wouldn't get soft no matter how long I boiled them.

Oh my gosh I love these! I live in Fl and grew up on these, we had a man who sold them out of a cart when I was growing up and my dad always brought us home some as a treat! The man's son now owns the cart and my dad still buys from them. We never ate them with our meals just as a snack, I never have tried making them myself, or never bought them in the cans, I'm sure they wouldn't be the same!
