Meeeeee! Adam and I went on our honeymoon! It was AMAZING!!
We booked through our local AAA Travel office and it was through TNT Vacations.
It ended up being $1100 ALL included (airfare for both of us, honeymoon night at a hotel in Revere, parking at the hotel for the week we were gone, shuttle to Logan Airport from hotel, the entire week at the resort including all meals at all 5 restaurants, all beverages, etc.) The only "extras" we paid for was a "Safari" that was off the resort (I think we paid about $150 for that??) which included a visit to a cigar manufactury, a sugar cane field, a private beach, a typical Dominican town w/stores, houses, etc., a typical Dominican house where we tried real, raw cocoa and witnessed a cock fight, lunch at a ranch and horseback riding through the countryside--which was AMAZING! OH, and the "safari" also included all of the beer, rum or water we could drink! lol We also paid to go tandem parasailing, which was $75 for the both of us. Oh, and there was nightly entertainment, too, including comedy shows, shows with audience interaction, etc. and the "Disco" was open every night as well.
Bring your TUMS, though! Even if you don't drink the water, you're going to get exposed to it through the food and drinks. If you want to stay away from the toilet, you'll need to take something before eating! OH, and don't travel off the resort driving a car yourself. Their laws are MUCH different than ours and if someone hits YOU while you're driving, you BOTH go to jail until the police have a chance to sort things out. It's best to take a cab or bus or jeep.

I know of a couple that went to both sides of Punta Cana and stay away from the hilly side. A whole group of people were walking along the beach that they traveled with. Someone ripped a necklace right off her neck and ran. Yikes! I was told that the flat part was absolutely beautiful and they had a great time there. I unfortunately don't know the hilly side from the flat. I'm thinking it may be to the north. They thought it was as beautiful as Hawaii.

I never went to Punta Cana, but I did live in the DR. If I had to pick a place to go in the DR, I'd go to La Romana and stay at Casa de Campo. But, Punta Cana is pretty close to La Romana, so I'm sure its much the same. Wait til you see how blue the water is...it is just STUNNIGN!!!
When are you planning on going? The best months to go are late November thru early March. Otherwise, you might get caught in some nasty rainstorms!! And they sneak up on you!!
