BBQ etiquette?
I know this is going to sound weird but this 4th of July is the first time I've ever been invited to a barbeque. I live in the city where most people don't have big backyards so barbeques aren't that common.
Am I supposed to bring something? What?

Offer to bring something, and see what the host/hostess says. If they say no, then take them a bottle of wine a dessert.

Well, you could always bring something along, perhaps a special dish you make, or you could always pick up a couple of bags of chips.
Maybe a cube of pop?
Or....you could call ahead and ask them if they need you to pick up some bags of ice, that would probably go over really well as they're always needed LOL
And of course, bring your appetite!

I always ask what can I bring. If they say nothing we still bring beer and pop.
handle a stressful situation like a dog If you can't eat it or hump it. Piss on it and walk away.

Also dont ask to bring other people with you besides those that are already invited.
My in-laws are having a big BBQ & people keep asking if they can bring other people. I think that is so rude.

Same here. It's amazing how fast these can go on a hot summer day.

ITA offer w/ the rest offer to bring something. Maybe say "what can I bring" inseatd of "can I bring something?" that way you are saying you want to help. If they decline you can always bring something any way like dessert or some drinks.

I agree with everyone else. BBQ etiquette is no different than when you are invited to any other kind of meal. One should always offer to bring something. And, if your offer is declined, you should always bring a hostess gift, i.e., bottle of wine, etc.
Have fun.
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

We 'do' BBQ's all summer, I am usually the host... but, when I'm not, I always call who hosting it and say "Hey, what do you need me to bring ??" They may actually say... or, they say "I don't know"... at which I say "You got watermelon, fruit salad, drinks ? You tell me what you're having, and I'll bring something..."
It's really that easy... And I always have extra people ! One year, on the 4th., our friends said "I have my sisters two boys... can they come ?" To which I said (and totally meant it) "The more the merrier !!" There is always too much food... it's awesome to see everyone having a good time !
