My 1st experience with canning :)

This weekend I was able to can 5 quarts of green beans and 7 quarts of dill pickles.......I am so excited to NOT have to freeze my veggies this year. Hoping that I will be able to get another 5 quarts once a week for the next few more weeks.........plus I am going to try the corn as well

Lord, I have been involved with canning in some form since I was old enough to pack veggies in from the garden. My mamaw always put out a HUGE garden and then we would all go and help "put it up". I can remember the relief I felt when I graduated from picking and shucking/silking corn to cutting it off. For a few days of work, though, we sure ate good all winter. I bet you will enjoy it too. Canned veggies always taste better than frozen to me, for some reason.

I am wanting to make blackberry jam this year.....or maybe jelly, instead. The seeds get in my teeth so I dont care for them much. I think we are going to put up some green beans too. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

my mom always did all the canning......we did everything else...I can remember her kitchen being SO freaking hot in there I was glad to be in the garden lol I agree frozen isnt nearly as good as canned. I think next year we will expand our garden a great deal and get even more.

Yeah......not only is it better tasting and better for you, but over time, it is really cheaper too, once you get your supplies bought up...Canning jars are EXPENSIVE. Now I know why my mom used to give someone a jar of whatever and then say Bring my jar back!

Are you gonna can veggie soup? My other grandmother canned soup and it was soo good on a cold day.

yeah the pressure cooker was my mothers day gift this year along with one box of jars so I need more of those (wish my mom hadn't given EVERYTHING away years ago)

I would love to do the soup if you can tell me how

Good luck. I have never canned but we have our 1st garden this yr(never had the area for it before) We are so proud that our garden is coming up so well.

We may try canning. I know I can get great tips from mom-in-law as she has been canning since she was a little girl.

My grandmother just made vegetable soup, cooked it, then put it up into jars and pressured them. Then she stored them until she needed soup. I would think you might want to not cook it DONE, in case the potatoes got mushy or something.
