    Bearded dragon lesson 1 *heh

Bearded dragons grow up to be 300x the size they are born...

Newborn hatchling.(2 days old) I can't tell what baby that is..

One and a half year old female. This is Nessa. She did NOT like the cold quarter on her back. That's what the face is about

Mojo is a year and a half also but she is much bigger than Nes

The .25 is next to Zeus. He is also a year and a half old.And that ;s about as big as he is going to get. Peanut and Zim have their heads in the pic and that is Gwar's tail. (bonus points if you know what Gwar is )

I have 20+ lizards.. I could tell them all apart by the patterns in their tails when they were babies and when they got older I could tell by their faces ( a mother knows her babies heh) .. Their tails are kinds like fingerprints.. no two patterns are exactly alike (from what I have seen so far)

and this concludes part one of your beardie edjamacationay

there so cute....My boy had one and I made him give it to someone that would take care of it....I was alittle afraid of it or I would have kept him myself but with 3 birds to care for felt it was best to part with him..

How can you tell if they are males and females? and do they get as big as iguanas? I'm terrified of iguanas..
If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.

    Those are cool looking.

My son had an Iguana & a f'in cat killed it. Needless to say the cat was history...

ETA: It wasn't the cat in the picture.

This is Zulu.. the daddy of the babies.. he is 22 inches long and that is big for an eastern beardie.. His mate Maya is about as long but is really fat b/c she has a strain in her called German Giant.. She also has green and purple in her.

To tell if they are males or females you have to kind of bend their tails backwards.. If it has 2 bulges it's a male ( it has a hemi-penis.. or a 2 headed penis) a female has one bulge.. after a while you can tell by their heads b/c female heads are not as big and triangular . Males (usually) have a perfect heart shaped heads
    Zulu's head

Female heads are smaller and sometimes look like a thin heat (like Mojo)

Beardies are not MEAN like iguanas.. My beardies cuddle up to you and take naps, They do NOT swish and whip their tails at you at all...

The only time I ever got bit (and it didn't hurt, they have no front teeth) is b/c I had blue nail polish on.. sometimes they try to eat my rings lol.

their nails are shapr when they are adults.. I always have scratches on my arms

dang.. i guess this is lesson 2 lol

The baby one looks like a gecko. The others just look scary to me. I never knew they liked to cuddle. What do they eat?

They love to cuddle.. Me and Zulu have taken naps together since he was a little larger than the tiniest baby (I have had him for 6 years.. They live 7-10)

They eat crickets, wax worms, madagascan hissing cockroaches (which I will not buy *ew) super worms, meal worms (and the worms beetles, I use the beetles to breed the worms )

They eat lettuce , spinach, carrots, kale, collard greens, clover flower (Maya's favorite) dandelions and greens (got lots of those lol) and raspberries

Sometimes as treats I give them dried cranberries and raisins

    Those are awesome pictures.

The baby looks about the size of the regular lizards in our backyard, which my dad would catch, put on top of his head and go to the grocery store with (don't ask...long story). One time one jumped into the tomatoes my dad was looking at. He couldn't find it and I guess was too embarassed to ask the produce guy for help. How the heck was he going to explain why there was a lizard in the tomatoes? I just feel sorry for the person who did find it.

Anyway, what other differences are the in comparing beardies to iguanas besides beardies being friendlier?

Oh, and do the parents feel threatened if you try to pick up the babies? And do the babies let you pick them up without freaking out?

Listen to me; I sound like I'm getting ready to head to Petco to purchase one of these. OMG...my husband would kill me!
