Television Preview and another scam today

wow - two scams in one day - got in to work this am after the long weekend and found had an "exciting" long message left on my work phone. The gentleman claimed he was the vice president of a company which wanted to expand in the area and I had been recommended for a position by a friend, either full time or part time work, my choice, for a very lucrative (ok, he used a classier word here) salary. Seeing as my workplace had announced last week we would have budget (ie: headcount) reductions due to the recent high cost of transportation and raw materials, and since I am rather new to the company, I actually for two second thought this was a legitimate job offer. But then I googled the phone number he left, and found web postings with this guys name and spiel (word for word - good script) from several others. a reverse phone number lookup revealed the name of this rather well known MLM. Hopes dashed! when I got home I researched further and found this well known financial company had many, many not so good postings on the web about it being a scam - same recruiting techniques via phone job offer, you sell others the financial services the company offers and earn off their sales, after everyone above you takes their cuts. yeah, right. I even googled this company in my small city and found at least 15 names and phone numbers popped up as local company "reps". guess there is a sucker born every minute. guess they all were conned to go to a preview presentation about the business too and now are passing it on.

Then I look over at the mail I brought in and see an envelope amoung the bills from a company called " Television Preview". how interesting. I open it up and find 4 tickets to an event at a local hotel in which I am invited to provide my opinion to directly influence TV of the future by watching two tv pilots. I googled the company site, Hmmm, 25 years in business, 70-75% of previous attendees said they enjoyed it. FAQ says dress casual, they want to simulate your home tv viewing environment. Then FAQ says No refreshments will be served during the 2+ hour event - geeze what a cheap company I think - I snack while watching tv at home. why should I give out my valuable opinions for nothing, and spend gas to get there, 25 miles away. ok they offer a raffle prize - hmm, I am done with with that already thanks to netwinner. Back to google, ok here are the scams unveiled (many many listings). The research is really on the ads they show with the tv pilots which from the 80's. a truly boring nite for a chance at a basket of goods I probably do not need (tampax and comet anyone?). argh!

ok, beware everyone - just had to vent... grrrrr... be forewarned
