    Anyone have a HP printer/multifunction?

I have a HP Photosmart C3180 multifunction (print/scan/copy). It has a card reader built into it. I've never used it because I prefer to just hook my camera up to the CPU via USB cord and transfer my pictures that way. Well, my USB cord has died and I can't connect that way anymore. So I put my SD card into the card slot on the printer. The lights blink a few times (I guess because it recognizes I put a card in there). I open the printer software on the computer and go to "transfer images" but the software tells me that the printer is not connected. It is. I can print/scan/copy using the software on the computer so I know that the computer and the printer are communicating. I don't know why it's telling me that the printer's not connected when I want to transfer images. Anyone else have a similar problem and have any insight on how to fix this? I wany my pics!

we have an older model ... ours prints/scans/faxes/copies (HP 7210).
Ours also has the picture ports, and it is possible it is your SD card and not your USB cord.

It's easiest to tell by heading to Radio Shack and getting a new USB cord for about $5.00.

If your new cord doesn't work, then you will know that it's your SD card and not your printer or the new cord.

My USB cord for my camera died, not a USB cord for my printer. My printer seems to communicate just fine with my computer for all other tasks, but just won't read my SD card (or any of my SD cards, for that matter). Thanks, though.

I wasn't speaking about your USB cord for your printer... I was talking about your USB cord for your camera.

But, at any rate... one of two things is wrong...

    1) your SD card is corrupted

    OR

    2) your printer port is corrupted and will not read the cards you insert.

So, your best option (and less headache) is to go to Radio Shack and get a USB cord for your camera -- generic ones will run about $5.00

I don't have that kind of printer with a spot for a card but I do have one with the printer, copier, scanner and fax.It is also a HP. Mine wouldn't scan and said the same thing yours is saying
printer is not connected. Had hubby look at it and he reinstalled the software and now it works fine. So you may just want to try to reinstall the software and see if that helps.

I have a HP psc 2410 all in one, I tried to find the answer for you but didn't know basics of your running system, here is the page for your printer:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...1146331&dlc=en

When looking I did find a kind of "fix" page: Automatically check to see if the latest driver is installed correctly.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&softwareitem=o j-40663-2&os=228&product=1146331%E2%8C%A9=en?

I don't know if any of that will help you I've never tried my card slots.

Sunie had the same idea as me. Go to www.hp.com and check the drivers. We had to do that with one of the printers at my office and it was a new printer but the software that came with it only loaded in French. Couldn't of been Spanish so that I could get someone to translate nope we got French.

I've had to uninstall and then reinstall the software before it would work right with the SD card. It's too much of a pain, in my opinion, so I just don't use it.

We have the HP Officejet L7580 all in one. It does that to me sometimes. All I do is shut the printer off and then restart it. Sometimes I have to do it a couple times. And I never open the printer program, a pop-up automatically comes up asking me what I want to do with the photos. I usually just cut and paste them to an album. If shutting it off doesn't work I would wipeout the software and reinstall it.

Thanks, everyone. I'm going to try and uninstall the HP softwear and then reinstall it. In the meantime, I went to Target and Radio Shack to look at new USB cables for my camera. They both wanted $22 for them. I ended up buying a Targus universal card reader at Radio Shack for $5. However, when I plug it into my USB port (any of the 7 free USB ports I have), I get a message on my computer screen that says that the device cannot be recognized. Ugggh. I got a portable flash drive in the mail the other day and when I plugged that in, I got the same message, so now I can't use either. I use a wireless mouse everyday, though, and the USB ports have no problem recognizing that...
