Now we use heavy pottery dishes for the cats....we used to use plastic but we had two cats that kept getting what looked like really bad zits on their chin so I took them to the vet. The vet told me that lots of cats have a sensitivity to plastic so we switch and have not had the problem since.
My cats do like clean dishes though......not everyday because we only use dry food but pretty regularly we wash them out, I use dishsoap on them too.

Umm, my cats have Wedgewood dishes. But not cause they are spoiled. I found two matching bowls for $1 a piece at a flea market and they just happened to be Wedgewood

I just heard about the plastic sensativity a couple of days ago, my neighbor was over and my black cat has this really bad dandruff and places on her back, and i thought well it was dandruff and he said his cat did the same and their vet said that it was from plastic bowls! I'm going to try switching now and see if it clears up.

My cat doesn't care what I feed him in. If I wash his bowl he will jump on the counter and knock it out of the dish rack and meow until it is filled. So he really could careless if I ever washed it - just make sure it has food in it.
As for the litter box - my cat won't use one - he meows when he wants to go out and scratches on the door when he wants in. Thank goodness I don't have a wooden door or he would have scratched through it by now.

My cat food and water bowls are both porcelain and I clean them on a regular basis. I wouldn't want to eat or drink out of something that has slime and hair in it, would you??

No, who would. I dont' think anyone that cares about their animals would feed them out of nasty bowls. I just found that for someone to say that cats had to have dishwahser washed bowls or they would starve is ludicriuos. It was also hillarious. It still is actually. LOL.
