My bday falls on MLK day every so often and I will get the day off, but I dont ever just take the day off. Its just another day to me. I mean, its not like my dh could take off for his wife's bday and we would spend the entire day together anyway. <Hmmm that does sound nice though, lol> Plus, I like getting a card from my co-workers and we all decorate each other's cubes on birthdays. (In fact, I have all of the bday decor stored in my desk drawers and a list of everyone's bday in my department. So when a bday comes up, we all get together and decorate the cubicle with tons of banners, balloons and confetti!)

I do try and take off work for each of my kids bdays. I like to make their special day extra special by bringing cupcakes, balloons and a card to lunch for them at school. My bdays as a kid weren't memorable at all, so I try to make sure my kiddos are a real treat.

I've worked with some like that.
Hubby gets about 3 hours off early for his b/day - he gets paid full 8 hour work day though - It's not "on " his birthday it's usually before his b/day - once a month every month in his company, if you have a birthday that month, you get a lil reception - soda & cake I think - and a couple hours off at the regular pay. I think it's nice.

My b/day is veteran's day & for some reason lately schools have been taking that day off so I don't need to worry.

I've never taken my birthday off, but I do request my anniversary if I'm scheduled to work.

Nope worked on my anniversary also. What happens when ya own the company. But I have worked places that was a holiday written in the initial p/w. I always asked to take it as a sick day as I had 2 girls with no help. Daycare didn't take em when they were sick. Company always let me!

We automatically get our birthday off with pay so i never worry about it. Just a little perk from the company to it's employees.

I wish my hubby would take his birthday off but he never has. I don't think they do anything special at work. Maybe a little something. Where he worked one time they would celebrate everybody's birthday one day a month for all those having birthdays that month.

He would rather people who work for him just take "personal" days off. He doesn't care why they are taking off. They don't need to tell him the reason. They are grown ups so they can take time off when they need or want to without explaining themselves.

I might get my birthday off I think I do this year it falls on my day off if I dont no biggie. When I worked at the papermill you either got paid to take your birthday off or work your birthday with 8 hours birthday pay plus time and a half for working it I always worked it.

Oh forgot, we also get a once a month birthday recognition here. Big ole cake for everyone with a bday that month, a little singing and if we get lucky, someone will get all goofy and do a little dance, lol. Not much, but more than alot of places do. So I am thankful for that I suppose.
