Ticks are insane this yr. We took our dogs to the park & within seconds each had 4 - 5 ticks on them.
We use K9Advantix, which kills fleas.
We dust our yard as well.

Both my dogs get lyme and heartworm tested every year we all ready found a tick on duke and everytime we come in from our WALKs we do a tick pat down on ourselves and the dogs.
My dogs get regular check-ups and testing too. I also treat for fleas and ticks. However, even tho we haven't had a "problem" with ticks before...the ticks seem rampant around my home this year and I don't have a lot of wooded areas in the neighborhood. This is really the first time we have had to do anything with ticks in 10 years I have lived in my home. And I have 3 dogs and a cat btw.

I guess the only reason I say that is since I have had my dogs the ticks are mad insane. I live right near the woods heck they were out before the snow left the gorund. You should be safe if you keep the flea and tick meds on them not 100% foolproof nothing is nowadays. Best of luck to you and I hope all 3 dogs arent long haired mine are very short haired makes it easy to do the tick pat down.

My 7 1/2 year old Winni was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in March 2007. The only tick she ever had on her we found in December of 2006,on her left "elbow". It was a nymph. She showed symptoms only after the diagnosis, typical LOL. She took Amoxicillin for 4 weeks for lessening the symptoms, and she is still on Rimadyl for her joints to help with lameness. Are you in an area where Lyme Disease is prevalent? Even with the vaccine,it is not always 100% as no vaccine is. We have always used Frontline Plus on her but the strength wanes toward the end of the 30 day cycle,so we recommend at the clinic I work at to apply it every 28 days. Did you keep the tick? You can compare the tick with the ticks that carry Lyme Disease. http://www.aldf.com/RiskMap/michigan/michigan.shtml ... Hope this helps!

A dog is not almost human , I know of no greater insult to a canine than to describe it as such.

We didn't have a tick problem last year, but this year it's horrible! I don't know why they are so bad this year. I have found one on my dog, my son found one in his hair and my cats have had atleast 6 ticks on them so far.

Ya'll are freaking me out !

We have never had a tick problem either, but, now I wanna check and double check the pooch. I haven't noticed them being bad this year, but, maybe they are... it's been really cool here this spring, but, the heat is coming.

We have never had ticks here in our yard. So lucky. But we battled fleas for years. Last year, we used over and out at the beginning of spring and also put seven dust around house. Wow, no fleas all summer. We did it again this year, and so far, no fleas. I love that stuff. I think it helps with ticks, but not sure. Only thing is, it has to be applied at the beginning of spring when pests are starting to emerge

Speaking of ticks... Matt just found one crawling on him, and apparently he found one last night as well. Looks like we'd better treat the yard...
