Company ready house?
Is your house always company ready? The stuff thread made me wonder about this. I try to keep the living room straight so that if anyone drops by they can come in and sit in there and it will be fairly neat and clean. But come into our den anytime and it looks well "lived in" . A neighbor came in the other day and came on into the den looking for me. I wasn't embarrassed so much because it was her but for some people it would have embarrassed me. She had to come through the kitchen where the dishes were piled in the sink, where the paint cans from the deck we are building are sitting in the kitchen floor etc. The den had clean clothes I had folded stacked everywhere. Sunday newspapers were on the floor. It was a mess. Does this happen to some of you? I wish I was one of those people who could always keep everything in a place but the older I get and the worse my husbands alzheimers gets the harder it is to keep things up. I have almost reached the point that I don't care anymore. I think once I reach that point I will be much more relaxed.

Other than the puppy toys on the floor,I am proud to say my home is more than company ready it is inspection ready LOL... if you are military or know someone that is,you will understand what I mean.
A dog is not almost human , I know of no greater insult to a canine than to describe it as such.

One of the chairs in my living room has everyone of grandson's books on it. I don't move them. I ask him to keep them off of the floor. He does.
I set down and he brings me a book.
There is a Thomas the train under the chair, I'll get it sometime
There is a brochure from my church on the table, I 'll get it sometime and put it in the trash but right now there is an artcle that dh wants to read.
No my house is not company ready, probably never will be.
But I really do not want anyone coming to my house without calling first and most people respect me enough to call first. The only one that does not is my sister and the last time she came I stood at the door and talked to her on the steps, never asked her inside. After 7 yrs of living close to her you would think she would understand. I asked her if her phone was broke.
If you come to visit call me and I will have it company ready by the time you get here. If you don't call, not only will it not be company ready but you might find me in my nightgown sitting on the floor playing cars with grandbaby.
I really do have my priorties in order.
But if you come and you do get inside you will be greeted with love and friendship, cold iced tea or soda or hot coffee, and good clean conversation. We will just have to move the books so everyone gets a seat.

My home is "lived in" but tidy. I'm ready for company anytime.
I'm not prepaired for overnight guests though, we dont have
any extra beds anymore.

99% of the time, yes. Some tell me I have OCD about keeping it clean. I hate hate hate clutter. I pick up toys, etc several times a day as i can't stand to have them in the floor. If it's a room I can shut the door, I'm not so worried about that.

The funniest thing just happened-
I had a visitor and she did not call ahead of time. She is a pastor of a church we visited many many times. She heard about dh's borther passing and she came by to give her condolances. She stayed about an hour and i had already showered and was in my nightgown (I quickly changed while dh talked with her) lol
It was sweet of her to stop by, she had been visiting some of the residents of the nursing home right down the street, I understood and welcomed her with a hug and I thanked her for coming by.
I was touched (I hope she calls the next time.)

My house is clean, but lived in. If someone drops by, I hope they are coming to see me and not to inspect my house. If they want everything perfectly in order, they can call first. Otherwise, they will see it as we live in it.
