Wandering mind
Ok, am sitting here with thoughts randomly roaming through the crevices of my brain when I came upon a thought. I am wondering, do you think that people called Albert Einstein, "Al"? Maybe back then because people were more formal than today, no one did, but I am still wondering. He does not look like someone you would call "Al". I mean who else can I ask other than my friends on here. My friends that I see and talk to all the time would probably think that I tripped over the edge.

Yes, I think they were more formal than today. Aggie's real name is Allison. His family calls him that. I call him that, too. Everyone else calls him "Al"....that's how he introduces himself as.
Aggie's entire family goes by their "formal" names...i.e. Douglas, Daniel. It's strange to me as well. No one in their family has a shorter version of their own name or even a nickname....it's what's on their birth certificates.
I can't imagine calling Aggie Al or anything of the sort. I've heard his "real" name so long it's foreign to me to hear anything else.
BTW: Allison (really is his first name) was his grandmother's maiden name. He was to be the "girl" of the family. Instead family had 4 sons. Allison also has a brother that some would consider a "girls" name as well.
Allison is an Old English name and was popular with men back in the day.

Oh, I love it !!!!!!!!!! It's that kind of thinking that has cured disease, solved some of life's mysteries, and gave people reason's to live ! AWESOME !
Using your head for something other than a hat rack...lol, YOU GO GIRL !
I personally think Einstein was a rebel, a very, very intelligent rebel. I actually grew up with a good buddy, named 'Albert'... and, he was just always called 'Albert'. I'm sure, out there somewhere, is a book about his life... that would be about the best place to find out, I would guess anyway.
Hey, keep up the good thinking !

I imagine some of Albert's close friends called him Al. I rarely call my kids anything other than a nickname or their full name. My daughter is Bethany. Usually on my DH calls her Beth. I hate that ..her name is BethANY. If I wanted her to be called Beth I would have named her that
My uncle named his kid Andrew McKay, but you werent allowed to call him Andrew. You had to call him McKay. Well, then wtf did you name him Andrew for??!!

Must have been related to my Dad's family. None of them go by their given names. Uncle Leroy is actually Ralph Leroy, My Dad was Tommy instead of Thomas, Uncle David is actually William David, Uncle Bobby is actually Paul Robert and my Aunt Betsy is actually Sherry Elizabeth. But they all call me Sandra and no one else calls me that. Go figure.
As for Einstein who knows. He was kind of off a bit so he might of went by Al or even Bert. Have a friend named Albert and we call him Bert.

As I was reading your posts, I was thinking about the use of nicknames. My name is Lucille but no one ever calls me that, I am called Luci, but since I am gemini, if I am mad at myself I will call myself Lucille otherwise, I do not know who this Lucille person is. Whenever I am first introduced to someone, whichever name I am told that is the name I will call that person forever. My DH is Michael, of course everyone calls him Mike, that is except for me. So if I ever have the good fortune of meeting any of you and you happen to tell me your name is "sh*thead" that is what I will call you and when I think of you that is the name I will think of you by.

I'm not a gemini, but I might have another personality. My full name is Jennifer Sue. But when my mom gets mad at me I suddenly become Jennifer Suzanne. I know perfectly well I never do anything to anger my mom, especially when I was a teenager, so it HAD to be my other personality.

This is so funny. About half the people in family do not go by their given name.
My family calls me Lissa Jane. Shortened version of my first and middle name is not Jane. 2 of my cousins go by their middle names. One goes by his initials. Another cousin we all call Ben. His name is Jack and his middle name is not Ben. My one cousin we have always called her Nikki. Her real name is no where near that, nor does is contain any variation of Nikki. She forgets her real name, when she goes away on business she says how weird it is when people call her her given name. Sometimes she doesn't realize they are talking to her.
Oh, and I think if I knew Albert Einstein I would have called him Bert.
