ooh good question, I love chicken noodle but have never found a recipe that I've truly liked (my fave comes from Sweet Tomatoes) but I do like french onion soup and have found a pretty good recipe http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Rich-an...up/Detail.aspx I don't follow it exactly like I use whatever cheese I want and I DO brown the onions. If anyone has a great recipe I'd love to hear it as I'm going to make this this week YUM

This year we have been eating allot of Portuguese soup, made with cabbage, turnip greens, Chorice ham, beef, and other stuff. It's soooo good.
We call it yankee food because one of our best friends is from Rhode Island, and they bring us back the Portuguese chorice every year to freeze so we can make that soup.

Cowboy stew is one of my old favorites, it's more of a hearty stew though, rather than a soup.

I love chicken tortilla soup. Here is my recipe....

1 can cream of chicken soup
    1 can red enchillada sauce
    1 can nacho cheese soup
    1 can green chillis
    3 cans of milk
chicken (however you want to use it. I use a can of chicken breast)

I throw it all in my crockpot. When its hot I crunch up some tortilla chips in a bowl and cover it with soup.

Okay it sounds gross, but we like pizza soup....I can't find my recipe but here's one from allrecipes

1 3/8 pounds hot Italian sausage, sliced
    1 pound pepperoni sausage, sliced
    3 green bell peppers, chopped
    2 onions, chopped
    2 cups chopped fresh mushrooms
3 cups crushed tomatoes with garlic
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
    4 cups water
1 1/2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
    2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

In a large saucepan, place the hot Italian sausage, pepperoni sausage, green bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste and water. Bring to a boil. Boil 30 minutes, reduce heat and simmer 90 minutes.
During the final 15 minutes of cooking, stir in the elbow macaroni.
    Top with mozzarella and serve.

We use a mix of peppers though and my kids will add olives occasionally...it's really good with soft breadsticks or garlic bread.

Here's my vegetable beef and barley soup

take any kind of steak you want, cube it and cover it in flour and brown in oil then fill a big pot w/ water, beef stock, bouillon cubes or a combo, bring to a boil and put in:
    meat
    1-2 bay leaves
onion diced (usually a whole small one as I love onion)
carrots 2-3 (I keep them in circle form, does that matter?)
cabbage (I cut mine into strips and use 1/4 -1/2 head depending on size), simmer for 30 minutes then add:
potatoes (I usually add 3 russets cubed) and cook for 10-15 mins and then add:
barley (if it's quick cooking, mine always is, if not, make necessary adjustments, sorry I'm unsure how long reg. barley takes to cook)
    whole kernel corn, drained
green beans, drained (not french cut) cover and cook for 10 minutes.

my mom only added half a can of the corn and green beans, but I add the whole can.. seriously, what will I do w/ a half can of each?!?!

Really you can add whatever you want, I made the Betty Crocker version for this and it calls for celery and tomatoes but I don't care for either of them in this soup. If you don't have barley, egg noodles would be a nice addition. This is just one of those feel good recipes and it lasts for a few days or you can freeze it.

You dont have a recipe for it, Vicky? I would love to try it

The soups I make are pretty run of the mill lol But we love homemade soup and I need to branch out and try different ones. I make beef stew (or veg. beef soup) , turkey or chicken noodle soup, and potato soup. I really dont use recipes for those....just throw stuff in the pot, and it always comes out good lol

Shann, if milk bothers you (lactose intolerant?) you should try the dairy ease milk. Its awesome.
    One Big Ass Mistake, America!
