Does anyone here take SAM-e?
I received a free box of Nature Made Mood Plus SAM-e, a 12-day supply. It says it starts to work to improve your mood within 7 days. It also is supposed to improve joint comfort (not that I need that yet...lol) and liver health. There are 400 mg in the two tablets you are supposed to take daily.
Now, I just read an article on the internet stating that once you get SAM-e into your system, you only need to take 100 mg daily or every other day.
Can anyone here tell me their experience with this supplement? Did it do anything to improve your mood? I'm not depressed or anything, but I could use a little boost in my mood. I want to be careful at the same time though.

I had an ex who took it and I don't think it helped, he became alot meaner on it, my suggestion is taking
b-complex, it turns food into energy and is a seritonin booster! So you will have energy, be happy and lose weight (if needed). Just a thought, I know taking it for me did good and when my husband takes it it improves his circulation!

Thank you for the reply. I take a multi with 100 mg of all the B vitamins, so I don't think I need to take any more of those.
I've been using the SAM-e for 5 days now, taking the recommended 400 mg daily, and I do feel a bit happier lately (maybe a placebo effect), but I think I'll cut back to just 200 mg a day for a while and see what happens.
It does say on the box not to take it if you are bipolar, pregnant or nursing. I don't have to worry about those, I was just wondering about any long-term effects.
Thanks again for the reply.

I've never taken sam-e, but I am taking 5-HTP. It's a serotonin booster as well and helps with mood (depression for me), and sleep (if you take extra at night time). I think it works pretty well.

A friend of mine can't take it, nor St. John's wort, because it interferes w/some of his other meds. I got my sample, too, but haven't started yet -- though I need it since things at work are a litttle crazy now.

Well, I'm glad I got it for free to try because this 24-pack costs about $25.00.
