I can't avoid it, lol!
But 3 or 4 times a year I get on a declutter spree and get rid of it. Sometimes, looking thru the stuff I thought I just couldn't do without at the time, I find that sometimes I don't even know why I kept an item. So I toss it.

My sister gave me what I thought was a good tip one day. I was complaining that I never get anything done because I'll pick up something in the living room to replace in the bedroom and when I get in there I start doing something in the bedroom leaving the living room almost untouched. She suggested I get a laundry basket (just a little cheap one from the dollar store) and gather all the clutter from the livingroom in the basket. Then go to the bedroom and replace everything from the basket that belongs in that room. Meanwhile gather everything from the bedroom that belongs in another part of the house and then go to another room. When you finish everything should be in place....
If you are talking about old mail and magazines and such. Trash the mail and the mags unless you can find an office or a friend who would like to have them.

If I havent used something in a while I throw it away, or give it to someone..try and keep knick knacks down the more you have the more you have to dust..I like to keep my house so it only takes me a small amount of time to clean my house, dust mop and such as that..I dont want to spend my whole day cleaning..I would rather sit at computer or do my scrapbooking. Or you could have a yard sale

I am the queen of throwing stuff out.
If it won't feed me, entertain me, pay my bills or keep me alive, its got to go.

I Freecycle my crap all the time! I'll get fed up with looking at something (oh yeah, I'm a clutter queen, too) and I'll list it on Freecycle and someone comes and takes it away. Sometimes I go on major decluttering missions and either put it all out on my porch and invite Freecyle people over, or I put it all in the back of DH's truck and he drops it off at Goodwill (if I don't want to wait for FC people to come).

Clutter queen title here too. If we go out to fast food, my son uses his fork to stab holes in his container so I won't take it home. lol. hey, they clean up great and have tons of uses. A few of them melt in the dishwasher though.

for every ONE item you bring into your home, remove TWO. Eventually, you will have nothing there. LOL! I think you might know what I mean. I try to go through drawers, closets, etc. every so often. But, if I bring in a new candle, picture, plant, anything... I remove two items that i don't really need. You can give them away on freecycle, goodwill, salvation army, or like I do, unload your unwanted items on a sister! LOL!
