I have changed the way I look at things, appreciate the small things more because you never know when it is going to be taken away. I am a little more viligant, a little more critical, a lot more politically aware then I was 9-10-2001.

I have made some changes but they were changes that I needed to make anyway. Now I am more aware of my surroundings and I find myself looking for the exits when I am in an unfamiliar place. I also have some kind of a plan of what I would do if something drastic happened.
I have posted on another board that I would not allow my freedom to be taken away from me without a shot being fired. If anyone wants to take my freedom away, they had better be willing to kill me. That is still my thoughts as I post here.
Missing Mommy and Daddy.
Missing my Lady,Dingo, Mitzi and Spud.
Missing my Aunt Ann.

For me it changed nothing...really. Except on whether or not I was going to re-enlist.

Ditto for my DH. He was a reservist for 22 years and fully intended to do 22 more. Then he got activated to go to Iraq which is a fight neither of us agree with. 2 months after getting home a friend of ours was killed over there. DH retired a few months later.
It wasn't going to war that he had a problem with. He was in Desert Storm in '91 and Iraqi Freedom in '03/'04. He had a problem with the circumstances of this war in Iraq and after seeing our firend die so young (he was 20 and was also the step son of one of our best friends) DH just couldn't justify giving more time or service to the country.

Wow, interesting. It was kind of the opposite here. It was actually because of 9-11 that my stepson and his best friend enlisted in the military. They were both anxious to go over to Iraq and fight. We were very surprised when he signed up. I tell you it made a man out of him.
I should pose this question to him. Thankfully, he didn't know anybody who died over there.
His best friend on the other hand had some friends in his unit die in one of the helicopter crashes.
Dear Lord, please give me the strength to not slap an idiot today......Amen.

My DH would have readily gone to Afghanistan. He just didn't think we had any business invading Iraq. One of his best friends (not the one who's son was killed) was a former SEAL. He volunteered to go to Afghanistan but they told him no and if he came back to the military they'd send him to Iraq. He didn't go back to the military. He didn't think we should have invaded Iraq either.

The 9/11 attacks are the most memorable thing that I have lived through so far .. but it hasn't changed the way I live my life. When my mom passed away at 57 changed me more in realizing life is too short and you never know when your time is up and to enjoy life as much as you can.
I do think 9/11 was a horrible event that our country has been through as a nation.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.
