Low calorie diets?
Well, my doctor put me on a low calorie diet yesterday..I asked her if it would be better to do low carb, and she said no, because it was to hard to stay with long term and I needed to learn to start counting calories again like I use to do back when I wasn't fat.
She this little tiny thing that really reminds me allot of ahippiechic. She looks allot like her. So picture my sitting there listening to this little tiny thing telling me how I should lose weight. But I got the shock of my life. She told me she use to be fat at one time. She weighed over 200 pounds! So I guess maybe she does know what she's talking about.
Anyway, what are your opinions on low calorie verses low carb? Also have any of you been successful at losing weight doing low calorie?

I have been successful doing low calorie and exercising. Do you mind if I ask how many calories she wants you to eat a day? I do a plan that lets me eat between 1300 to 1600 calories a day. My activity level is fairly high. I have lost about 60 pounds this way. Good luck! I know that you can do it.

Oh yea, a low calorie is best...burn more than you take in. Each 3500 calories equal a pound of fat... so, say you burn 2000 a day, and, only take in 1000 a day, in 3 and ½ days, you would lose one pound.... that's about two pound a week.
Hey Kyla, you might wanna start taking extra fiber every day, sugar free Fiber Choice chewables is best. It tastes GREAT, keeps you full, helps your digestive system stay in check as you eat less, and actully absorbes some 'bad things' in your system. Well, the benefits of extra fiber are just awesome.
Best wishes ! Hope you do well !!
I'm getting a pool pass for the indoor pool to swim all winter... easy and fun exercise !

She put me on a 1,000 calorie aday! I looked at her funny and said only a thousand. She said yes. Probably cause my knee is injured and she knows I will be having to be careful with it when I walk, so no fast walking for me for awhile anyway. Thanks for letting me know & giving me encouragement & congrats on your weight loss.

Thanks for the formula and I'll pick me up some of those chewables, I hate that liquid kind. Thanks for the idea. I didn't know they made chewables.

Be sure to include a higher calorie day every 3 or 4 days. This is to fool your body. Seriously, don't eat exactly 1000 every day. If you want to eat 800 one day and 1200 another do that but be sure to eat more occassionally so your body doesn't catch on that you are starving it. Other wise it will become accustomed to the 1000 calorie and you will either quit losing or when you start eating again you will gain it back very quickly. Laugh if you think I am nuts but do keep this in mind. Yes I have lost 40 lbs very quickly by counting calories. I also was told to lose weight after I had my heart attack.

Oh I agree with you there, I remember back when I use to watch calories. It seemed like I had to starve myself to death to see any results. And when I tried to follow a low calorie plan I didn't see any results, unless I barely ate at all. I'm hoping this time will be different. I'm going to do what you said about shifting around the calories from day to day.
PJDancer, thanks for that site. I really like how you can keep the food diary online like that.

Wow, some pretty good info in here. My doctor also put me on a low cal diet about a year ago. She said she wanted me on 1000 - 1200 a day. I never did even try it though. I know, not good. lol I've been thinking about it a lot though. I'd love to drop some of this weight.
Good luck Kyla. Do you have any ideas on what foods to eat or anything like that? I think I'd like to make me out a menu type thing, I think I would follow it better that way if I did.

My doctor suggested the lean cuisine meals. So after I left the doc I went in search of those dinners and they are so freaking expensive that I didn't get them. BUT! I found the healthy choice ones on sale for $1.50 each! So I bought about 10 of them to try out. That's all I've been eating so far for my meals. You could eat 3 of them a day and not go over 1,000 calories.
She told me to snake on carrots and apples. So I bought a bag of tiny green apples and the Green Giant baby carrots are really good! They are sweeter than most are.
Tasha, check out that website and sign up. It's free and it has a meal planner that you can make up your own menu's. You add the item and it will tell you how many calories and everything else you are eating each day. It's really cool!
