Toothache remedies -Help
Ok spent my second night awake with a toothache and I'm at my wits end. I've been using salt water to gargle and a generic oral gel on the tooth. So far it gives me a few minutes of relief then it's back. The problem is no dentist will extract the tooth unless I go off my blood thinners (bad heart and most recent surgery was only June 27th so I'm not at the three month mark yet) I can get an apt for later this week but will have to go on antibiotics for a week and then off my blood thinners for a week (which isn't good for me because of having advanced CAD). Anyone know of any home remedies that will give me some relief until I can get this taken care of ? It's not a bad rotten tooth or anything in fact its a tooth with a filling and it has a small hole in it. Anyone have any ideas I'd really appreciate them...Gem

If the tooth is not rotted or anything like that has the dentist said why they can't just replace the filling. I recently had a filling replaced in one of my teeth because part of it had fallen out. Cloves help a little. If you have whole cloves just put one inbetween your cheek and gum where the sore tooth is.

If you can get oral wax (intended for people with braces) take some of it and put the wax in the hole, it will prevent anything from getting in there and causing pain, I have been doing that now for 2 months with a tooth of mine and I have had no pain since I started using it.
I have to get a root canal....so looking forward to that one..LOL
Hope that helps.

Have you tried any Ibuprofen? Advil or Motrin they usually help me.
Or maybe the doc can give you some pain killer(darvocet or maybe some tylenol 3).
Hope you feel better soon

I forgot to mention that they have temporary filling stuff that you can get. I bought some at CVS and you just take a little bit of it and roll it in a ball and then fill the hole with it. It comes with a little plastic thing to help smooth it out with. I used that for a couple of weeks until I could get into the dentist.

You can also take an aspirin & let it dissolve on the tooth. Not sure if that is a good idea since you are already on blood thinners.

Last night I was eating popcorn and I like the chew the seeds that popped but didn't pop all the way and I felt something sharp in my mouth and it was a filling and a piece of tooth connected to it. I'm going to have to get that wax stuff since it's going to be a few weeks before I can get that puppy pulled, I can't afford a crown and have no dental insurance. (sniff sniff)
My husband tho before he got his upper dentures, they had him stop taking asprin, excedrin and I can't remember what else, but they only made him wait a week.
But feel for you I really do, especially when it's medication that you need to take. 3 months is an awefully long time without it.

I know when you take blood thinner you cannot take certain kinds of medicines...my mom has cartiomyopoty and has the same problem. Ambesol will work well...try using clove oil...you can get that at the pharmacy. If you can take it I suggest Aleve...it is the BEST pain reliever for tooth aches. The dentist tried to give me Tylenol 3 with codine...and that didnt help with mine...took an Aleve and it was gone in 20 min. Also...try a small heating pad or warm water on the side of your face...heat takes the ache away. Try gargling with peroxide and water...I would only put about 1oz per 8 oz and make sure you dont swallow it. They do have tooth filler you can get at walmart...I dont remember what it is called but...it works good too...it is in a little blue container...and it is not that expensive. Other than that...nothing really else I can tell you...but that I have been there...and it hurts really really bad!

Thank you all I will try some of these things and see if it helps. The dentist gave me the option to fill it again but with my heart there were too many complications and this whole long procedure so I opted to have it removed. I've tried three other dentists but they didn't even want to attempt it because of the risk of infection to my heart. I've had 8 stents implanted in three years so that makes them more cautious. The filling kit idea just might be a good thing to try since it's going to be at least two weeks before they will consider removing it. 7 days of antibiotics, 2000 mgs the day they remove it and then a weeks worth after it's out. I did think of trying the aspirin last night but between the blood thinners and high aspirin dosage I'm on now that would just make me sick in the stomach and might create more problems. Thank you all for your ideas...Gem

Hold a little bit of blackberry brandy on the tooth for a minute or two, you don't have to drink it. It makes the pain go away for quite a while.
