Women's opinoins on tubal ligation (men, if you don't know what it is, stay out..lol)

I just started a job with the County and my insurance covers tubal ligation 100%. I know one of the cons is early menopausal symptoms. Anything else?? Pros, Cons...anything. BTW, I'm 38 and have NO desire to get pregnant EVER again. I have 1 son and 1 daughter...perfect for us!! Oh, I currently have an IUD for birth control.

Ok, you're 38 and would menopause on your own probably within the next 10 years, right?

An IUD is a 'no brainer' for birth control, you just need to check it with your gyn every now and then and they're pretty reliable.

A tubal ligation, from my understanding, is a major operation.

Why would you want to subject yourself to that if things are going 'okay' now?

On the other hand.....if your tubal ligation is covered....would hubby's vasectomy be covered? Hmmm...that procedure is a lot less invasive...... he he he..snip, snip..

I didn't have any problems after I had mine done... BUT ... my Dr. did mine during a c-section. I don't know what its like to have one done by itself. I haven't had any menopausal symptoms or anything.

As far as pros/cons, I am sooooo glad I had mine done. Not having to worry about birth control was worth it

I had a consultation with my gyn because I had thought about having a tubal ligation and she talked me out of it thankfully. I am using the Mirena IUD. She uses it herself and recommended it. So far I haven't had any problems other than bleeding almost every day for the first six moths after I was fitted with it. I am due to have it removed in January of 2009. Most of the people who I've talked to that have had tubal ligations say they wished they never had it done because their periods are more painful and heavier than they were before the procedure.

I had mine done during a C Section 29 years agao when I was just 21. I know now they don't do them that young. My second child was a birth control baby, and I could not risk getting pregnant again so we went that route. I did have a friend several years ago who had one, and it is basically a laprascopic type surgery. She only had two 1 inch incesions. Was back to work in about 2 days. As far as going through menopause all the women in my family have gone through it early. I'm 49 and have been through it for about 2 years now. But I wouldn't of cared if I would of went through it at 30, I never planned on having anymore kids anyway. I think it's all a personal choice.

I have never had those problems either. Physically I am the same now as I was before.... except I can't get pregnant

I had mine done 1 hour after giving birth to Courtney in 2003. So I was like... 18 then. No, I was 23 (almost 24). I have three kids and knew I didn't want any more and thats why I done it. I told my doctor on my very 1st OB visit when I was pregnant. LOL I told him to cut, tie, burn, glue and staple mine and whatever else he could do. LOL He actually only cut & tied mine and I was a little upset about it but he told me that when he does it, he does it so it can't be undone. He cut off so much and blah blah blah. I've always had really painful periods, so I really haven't noticed any changes. Oh wait, mine are actually shorter now. Not sure if it has anything to do with the tubal or not though. lol

I think if you are really set on not wanting to have anymore kids at all, then I say its worth it. I don't regret my decision at all because I knew I didn't want anymore. lol
