homemade angel food cake...yummm
last night I made some and it's sooooo good! I haven't made it for years, since I was back in the midwest and had my mom's pan. I finally broke down and bought the cute red silicone one and last night tried it out... the bottom (well it would be the top once taken out of the pan) was a little burnt which has never happened in the metal one... I'm guessing it was b/c I used the non stick cooking spray and the directions said not too
but other than that it came out delicious! we've been getting the store bought ones and they are just NASTY. from now on this is the way to go.

Betty Crocker and I make one together in my Angel food tin. Just add a little water and bake for nearly an hour. When cool I put it on a pretty plate and spread a pkg. of strawberry glace on it or fresh strawberries cut up if I find real red ones.

hehe I should have been more specific.. my "homemade" version did come out of a box
I believe it was Pillsbury but it's such a difference when you cook it at home compared to when you buy one premade at the store. I like to put cut up strawberries and whipped cream on mine. *drools*

Sometimes when the family goes on vacations or cruises I cheat and buy 4 mini Angel food cakes a tad larger than cupcakes. One makes a good serving for me. I've been known to put assorted fruits on it, even drizzle Hersheys's syrup or Smucker's butterscotch topping on it and a dollop of coolwhip and sprinkle with leftover ground up cashews.
I love to be creative with desserts and some cooking too.

There use to be a all you can eat buffet in Hot Springs that would take angel food cake, strawberries and whip cream and just stir it all up together. It looked like a bowl full of something that was needing thown out. But it was sooo good! I don't know why it tasted better that way than it would have layered. But it did! yummy!

Hey I've made that many times. When a cake turns out to dry to my liking I break it up and put coolwhip with and mix it all up. I mix whatever kind of canned fruit I have after I drain it.
Here's a cake hint I've learned so no more dry cakes. Use milk instead of water. When I make a manadarin orange cake I use the juice instead of water and milk to make up the liquid.

Good advice Nana
I made a cake the other night and used a strawberry cake mix, and used orange juice instead of water. Then made a frosting with orange juice and it was so moist and really tasted great. I was afraid it wouldn't because of the orange and strawberry combination. But it turned out great! Everyone loved it.
Have you ever used coconut milk in a cake? I was at Big Lots the other day and the manager there always comes over to visit with me, and he is from Hawaii. He told me that coconut milk made the best cakes. I bought a can of it, but haven't tried it yet.

I have used it but my neighbor used it in her cakes - delicious. She was alwsays asked to bake desserts for the church raffle/bazzars. It's kind of expensive to use in cakes every week.
