Can we die of a broken heart?
I saw Johnny Cash die very soon after June Carter. I have a friend who lost his wife 14 months ago. He recently told his daughter that the only thing keeping him alive was his children and grandchildren. He had heart by pass in the past. He was 60 yrs old and died of a heart attack yesterday. I believe we can die of a broken heart. Any one have any thoughts on this?

I think we can die of a broken heart. I know of two couples that once their partner died, they died within 3 months. I think that your heart is an amazing thing. I think that heartache is a major thing. I know that when my dad was in the hospital and almost died...my heart ached like never before. I couldn't breathe and I really thought that I would die if he did. I think that people take alot for granted. Thankfully my dad pulled thru..but even as I think of it now, it tugs at my heart.

Absoluty!! My heart is broken and there is nothing that can mend it. There will always be a hole there. I thought I would die when my son was killed in Iraq.

Quite agree, when my Mom passed away...she took part of me with her. If I didn't have my family, husband and children, I would've been so much worse.
Mrs Pepperpot is a lady who always copes with the tricky situations that she finds herself in....

Yep .. I believe you can .. and sorry for the loss of your friend.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.

I think only the old people can die of a broken heart. I've watched to many people suffer after losing children. My best friend lost her 16 yr old pregnant daughter in a car crash several years back and she was about 35 then. She told me that she wanted to die. That she prayed every night for God to take her because the pain was just to much to bear. But she is still alive, even though the pain almost drove her insane. It was awful to watch her go down hill like that, but nothing helped, not even meds. Finally after many years she has started acting normal again. So maybe the old die, and the young go temporally a bit insane.
