playstation 3
Hello I live in Iowa I was wondering if anybody knows of any other stores besides Best Buy, Walmart, and Target that is going to have the PS3's for sale on the 17th (Friday)? My 9 year old son really wants one but I think they are going to go FAST!!!! Also I wish I knew how many Target and Walmart are getting for each store. I know Best Buy is only getting 20 per store. Any help will be appreciated Thank You

I know I'm not much help, but I've heard many people say that PS3s won't be available unless you were one of the lucky ones that stood in line and put a deposit on a pre-order. Even the people with pre-orders don't know if they're going to get theirs because the stores are receiving less than they were originally told they would.
Your best bet will probably be Ebay, but people are bidding ridiculously high.
Good luck! I hope you find one!

Re: playstation 3
First, they will retail at $399 .. Don't people think thats too much money to spend?
Second, they did not produce enough and sold way too many pre-orders + you know the employees will get 1st dibs! People are standing in line now for this, heck since Monday for this. Most people who are camping out will only be buying so they can re-sell on the secondary market.
I could only imagine how high they will be going for on ebay, because a parent feels they HAVE TO buy this.
Remember last year and the XBOX 360. Same thing, they had too much hype and produced a small amount of units.
Rudeness is the weak person's imitation of strength.

I think ppl are crazy to camp out for days in the rain, snow and cold for these games. Way to much money. Hope you are able to get one.

Re: playstation 3
Okay, I am a total gamer, and so will 'splain you some things.
1. Don't get the PS3. It will be the worst of all next Gen consoles in terms of games and worth. It is not $399, it's $499 for the trimmed down version, and $599 for the full, "good" PS3.
2. XBox 360 could be a good buy. It is much cheaper, much more available, and has some good kid-friendly games like Viva Pinata and, sometime next year, Banjo-Threeie(B-T will be so good, it's my whole reason for buying a 360).
3. Wii is probably your best bet for having fun. It has way more kid friendly games(which is important if your son is 9), and is even cheaper than both previously mentioned systems. It also has some great features which most people don't even know about, like a free web browser(unless you buy it after next June), and weather alerts and forecasts. And with the new controller, trust me, it'll keep everyone more entertained(and active :P).

Re: playstation 3
If you haven't either already put $ down on a pre-order or are already camping out in front of the store you have NO chance at all unless you want to pay the big big big $ on ebay(haven't looked but have been told that it's about 3,000 ).
From everything I'm reading I wouldn't touch them with someone else's 10 foot pole
The PS1 and 2 games will not work with it. Games for 3 are 60.00 or more.
Anger management courses at Walmart, you get what you pay for

Re: playstation 3
They are already camping out here.
The part about employees being able to get first dibs isn't correct (at least for one store) My nephew is the mgr for a best buy store and the employees are not allowed to purchase things in a sale like this. I was going to send him some money last year for a laptop they were having on black friday and he told me that they have a policy against it. They can give their money to a friend or something to buy for them, but they can't buy it directly.... at least at his store.

Sorry killbarney, but this is incorrect, the PS3 is backward compatible and will play PS1 and PS2 games. There is some talk that a few PS1 games are not working properly. Sony has stated that, "most of the 7841 titles in Sony's database work and future firmware updates will provide even more compatibility."

On "Good Morning, America" this a.m. (thursday), they said RIGHT ON TV that a LOT of the PS1 and PS2 games WOULD NOT PLAY on the PS3 and if you had invested a lot of $$ on those games and don't want to have to do it again, then stick with the PS2.

Sony is addressing those issues with firmware updates. As andreame70 said, it's incorrect to say the PS3 is not backwards compatible. It is.
It won't play certain games, but yes, it is backwards compatible.
I personally think the PS3 is overrated. Sony wanted to get in on the holiday rush, but such a large company should've known better than to release a product that's not ready. (Then again, people are buying it so why bother delay the release to increase the quality?)
