    Thinking positive

I have a hard time with depression. My daughter insisted I watch a video she had called the SECRET. It is about thinking positively instead of negatively. I am a very negative person I think. Anyway we all know that when we are truly depressed not much helps. But I stay more just on the brink, so I am thinking positive. I have been doing this 3 days and it seems to be working. Even when I don't think something is possible I tell myself it is. I think I will never get caught up in housework but I visualize my house nice and clean. No it isn't clean yet but neither am I driving myself miserable about it either. Has anyone ever tried this? Any other tips on trying to keep depression at bay? Yep I am on meds.

    Re: Thinking positive

I have problems with depression too. This week is even worse since my boyfriend and I broke up on Tuesday. I know it's probably for the best but I still miss him. I get prescriptions for Welbutrin and Zoloft but I don't take them like I should. I know they aren't going to help when I don't take them everyday but I've never been good about taking pills. I don't even like taking pain relievers unless I really need to. I would like to see that video. I try to stay positive but usually end up going back to my negative thinking. Instead of taking one day at a time I try to look at the big picture and I get overwhelmed which makes me more depressed. Glad to hear the video has helped you.

    Re: Thinking positive

I totally agree with postive thinking/energy and visualization.

Meds though are a bandaid, they mask the symptoms but don't cure the cause and are meant to be short term. The most effective treatment in many European countries and some progressive shrinks/MDs in US is Omega 3s (fish oil) and exercise (20 minute daily walk will do it) U S drug companies fight this like crazy – not enough money in it but there is hard science and amazing success to back it up. Just google Omega 3 or fish oil and depression for info. Not to mention all the other benefits of Omega 3s for your health/brain.

I personally just embrace my depression. Pain reminds me that I am still here so HA! Jokes on them.
