Re: requirements for an EEG?
How old is your daughter? If she is very young then they may be thinking to sedate her so she does not move too much during the test. This is the only thing I can think of because my daughter has had several of them and has never been unable to eat or drink. But, she was over 12 yrs old at the time and could remain still for the tests.
Good luck with the results of the test.

Re: requirements for an EEG?
she could be hungry as well simply because she is not allowed to have anything. Again tngirl is right. If they have to sedate her they do not want her eating anything because if she vomits while out she could aspirate (choke) on it. Are you sure it is an EEG? and not something else?

Re: requirements for an EEG?
Ok, I just noticed that you said this was your daughter-in-law (DIL)...silly me. I can't think of any reason she cannot eat if it is just an eeg. The only time my daughter couldn't eat or drink was when she was having her MRI's, CAT scans or any other test that required dyes. Also, when you are NPO it is just after midnight.

Re: requirements for an EEG?
My 10 y/o had an EEG last year and she could eat. The only thing she couldn't do was sleep.. she had to be sleep deprived (no more than 5 hours) ... as with the other posters, unless they are going to sedate her, I can't see any reason why they would tell her not to eat.
