    In school suspension

Does an in school suspension go on your permenant record? I gave DD my cell phone last night and she forgot to give it back. This morning at school it rang and of course she got it taken away and she got a two day ISS. She's worried that it will be on her permanent record and will affect her chances of getting into a good college. I'm a little ticked that she got two days ISS out of it, she wasn't talking on it and there are other kids at school who have phones and never get in trouble for it, but all she cares about is her record...why wasn't I like that at that age! LOL

why are they allowed to have phones at school and then get ISS when they ring? This doesn't make any sense? They are allowed to carry them, but you can't talk on them or they better not ring?

They aren't allowed to have phones at school. Of course kids take them whether they are allowed or not. One of the kids in her class is a teachers kid and she talks on hers all the time but never gets in trouble for it.

That is what is known as a double standard. My daughter would not be given any kind of suspension or any other punishment for that matter. I would go to that school and demand equal treatment.

I heard, many years ago, that all things became a part of your record once you were in middle school or high school but it may be different now.

It will go on your record, will not affect your chances in college, thats for sure. If they see a habitual problem they will obviously take that into account but 2 days in ISS is nothing. I know kids who spent weeks in there and they got into very good colleges very easily.

If it does go on there don't worry. The only thing colleges worry about is if you were convicted of felonies.
They look at test scores and grades as well as teacher recomondation. I know that as teacher we put a lot of value on a permanent record, but thats more so that we can understand where our students come from, they ussually get packed up after graduation

It will go on her record but college isn't worried about that. As far as cell phones, what I would say when I went to parent meetings as their parent advocate...if the kids that were involved in Columbine didn't have cells phones you would have never known anything.

I know why they don't like them having them but.....
