    Question Dog Grooming Info

My dd really wants to be a dog groomer, but we do not have a dog grooming schools anywhere near our area. All the businesses around here want experienced people only. So, how does one get a dog grooming job with no experience, school, with places that only hire experienced? Thanks for any advice!

If you have a Petco near you give them a call.

PETCO offers a unique opportunity for exceptional individuals interested in pursuing a career in the pet grooming industry. As part of the PETCO grooming training program, you will gain the skills and techniques necessary to become a Professional Pet Groomer. No previous grooming experience is needed. We'll pay you while you train!

    Re: Dog Grooming Info

The lady that grooms my dog was talking one day about hiring summer help. She has 2 shops and was saying that the groomers at her other shop were trained by her.Maybe try to find a "small" shop to train at.Might even look for "volunteer" work in exchange for training.
    I'm not tense.Just terribly,terribly alert.

Thanks for this post, it would have been perfect. We have a Petco a few miles from here, but the closest training school is on the other side of the state, bummer

I will look into a smaller shop I guess. Thanks everyone.

    Re: Dog Grooming Info

Too bad you didn't post this yesterday. My mother's two Yorkshire Terriers were groomed yesterday. I would have had my mother ask her how she got into it. The girl that grooms her dogs has a motor home and she goes around to her clients homes and grooms the dogs in the motor home. It's set up special for grooming so it doesn't actually look like a motor home inside. My mother pays $70 to have both dogs groomed so if that's the average rate it sounds like it would be a good thing to get into.

    Re: Dog Grooming Info

I was able to take a dog grooming class throgh the local community college. I think it's only like a semester and a half (at least where I am from) and you don't really get credit for it, but you were certified to be able to groom dogs afterwards. Good luck to your daughter!
