Have you ever tried
EMLA cream? It is used to help numb the skin for blood draws etc. If anyone has used it, please let me know if it works. Thank you!!

Re: Have you ever tried
it feels along the same lines as the orange stuff does that dentist rubs on your gums before giving you the shot of novacaine.

Re: Have you ever tried
When my son was little and needed lab work done every week for his blood disease this cream worked wonders for him! It just numbs the skin enough to take the initial "prick" feeling of the needle away.

Re: Have you ever tried
I use Emla cream on myself. I have a port a cath in my chest that is used to give me IV therapy and also blood transfussions. To me I don't think it really does a whole lot. My pain isn't when the needle goes into the skin (and yes that's the only thing in numbs) my pain is when the needles pierces the muscle to go into the port. And actually one time when I had ran out of the Emla cream I used ora gel it worked the same way.
If you're talking about using it on a child then yes it probably would make it easier on them to have blood drawn. However also remember it needs to be put on 20 to 30 minutes before the needle is going to go in.
Hope that helps you

Re: Have you ever tried
They used it on me when I had my chemo the last time, but I really don't think it helped very much. I might work better for just drawing blood tho.

Re: Have you ever tried
Emla cream works wonders for my dot's blood draws. But must be applied half hour before blood draws. Has helped with her hesitation of the needle pokes. Takes the flinch reaction away for her.

Re: Have you ever tried
Ya'll are going to laugh, the ELMA is for me! I am so terrified of needles that it is pathetic! I need to take some Valium or something before I go...hey- I wonder if that would work?? lol
Thanks for your responses!
