    Question about WIC

As some of you know we are going to be separating from the military and moving back home. For about a year we will be staying with family. My question is if we have to show his parents income if we are applying for WIC? Maybe someone here has been in this type of situation before? His parents will in no way be supporting us. We will still be paying our own bills as well as helping towards their electric bill and stuff since its bound to go up since we are staying there. And we will be buying our own grocerys.

My friend told me that as long as we continue to pay our bills and are contributing to the household that we don't have to show their income. My sister says we do have to show their income. We will not be making much money at all and wic would sure help us out......but I don't want to do anything illegal either. Help!! TIA

    Re: Question about WIC

As far as I know you only have to show your income or spousal's income but not his parents income. I am a single mom. My daughter and I have lived with my mother since she was born. I had WIC and never had to show my mother's income, just mine. WIC is really easy to get on. Good luck.

I really don't know, but I would think they would just use you and your hubbys income and not his parents. Especially if they aren't supporting you. Here is WICS homepage link http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/
look around on there and maybe you can find the info you need or you could call and ask so you know.

    Re: Question about WIC

I always thought WIC was based on your income regardless who you live with. And it's a great program til Chloe is 5 yrs. old. Milk, eggs, juice, peanut butter, cereal, cheese, and much more. A few years ago I knew a gal on WIC. She started sharing stuff with us since there was no way she and her daughter could eat everything that was supplied. Wish I could be more help. Call the social services, welfare office for info. Good luck hon.

    Re: Question about WIC

I got Wic when my daughter was born to help with the cost of the formula. That was 17 years ago so they may do things differently now but they did ask questions about your income and if you rent or own your own home. If you're living with someone they will want to know if you're contributing to the household and how much. They may want a letter from your parents stating how much you will be paying towards rent or utilities and that you will be buying your own groceries. They also might ask for a copy of the utility bills.

    Re: Question about WIC

They didn't ask anything like that. They do ask if you live with someone. But their income will not effect if you get WIC. They don't ask what their income is at all.

If she was applying for food stamps or financial assistance then yes the income of who she was living with would be taken into consideration.

The best thing to do is call really before you apply. WIC is a program that most doctors and social service office will encourage you to sign up for. The more people they get using WIC the more funds they get for the program. They have a quota they have to fill each year to determine what they will get for the program. If the quota isn't filled they lose funding for it.
