Re: ? for those with partial dentures

Thanks Buttrfli for detailing that for me!!
I haven't decided what I am going to do yet, I guess it depends on how much my insurance will pay, and what I have to pay. The implants sound expensive. I really don't see how people go and keep their teeth pristine, it costs so darn much to go to the dentist. One trip for "one" tooth last year set my husband back almost $3,000 . I can't imagine the pain also of having all your teeth pulled or cut out and implants put in. EEKS!!

I did a google image search and all the partials I saw curved up into the roof of the mouth. This is causing me to occasionally gag on the denture and it's difficult for me to pronounce words. I'm thinking that they shaped my dentures wrong. Could someone with partial dentures please tell me whether their dentures curve up into the roof of their mouth or down and leave a big gap so I know whether or not I have to go back to my dentist (He is 3 hours away). Thanks.

I hope that makes sense. LOL.
I don't think it actually matters how everyone else's look or feel. It is your mouth, you paid for them and they should be very comfortable to you if they fit right. If they don't fit right, go back to the dentist. I am sorry to say sometimes it takes a number of visits to get it right. This is their job. If they have a big gap that does not feel natural after a week or so , go back. You will never be happy with them and will wind up not wearing them. Properly fitted dentures are never as comfortable as your natural teeth but can be very comfortable.

Re: ? for those with partial dentures

I have been trying to keep my partials in as much as possible over the last few days and that really seems to help me get used to them. I still occasionally have to take them out because they make me gag but I put them back in not long afterwards. At least I am finally back to talking normally with them in. I am still having a difficult time eating with them. I have lost 12 pounds over the past 10 days, which is a good thing in my case..lol. I've switched to drinking Slim Fast twice a day (for the nutrients) and then I am eating something soft like soup or yogurt for dinner. Now if I could just lose another 40 lbs. LOL.

We're supposed to wear 'em? I got partials on top, 2 teeth on one side, one on the other, and they've been laying on the counter since I brought them home Wednesday. I'm thinking I'm selling mine on ebay. I'd like to have that $400 back.

And no, I can't eat with them. And I can't talk with them. And they're a complete waste of time and money. Of course wearing them and getting used to them might help, but that ain't gonna happen.
