    What's your opinion on..............

Mature rated video games? Do you allow your minor children to play them?

Last summer, against my better judgement, I let my husband talk me into letting my boys (then 6 yrs and 5 yrs old) play Grand Theft Auto. They started fighting more and the worst was when my youngest was talking about shooting a cop. My husband is a cop and it finally made him realize the kids were too young for these types of games. They can't seperate the real world from the game world at this age.

I had a bad feeling about the games, and my point was proven. The rated M games are banned. No asking, no maybe, just NO!

My son only plays the games that are rated E for everyone. One of the first things I do is look at the back of the box when he sees a game that he wants.

Our 10 yr old talked his grandma into buying Grand Theft Auto for him. I let him play it for a while, until I saw some of the things that were going on in this game. I was very shocked at some of the things you can do. I don't think that the minds of children need to be filled with all this violence, rude language, and behavior. Since seeing that game I have now banned all M rated games and I am not to well liked for that at times! He does not like that most all of his friends are allowed to play Mature games and not him. But I just tell him they are not mine and if they were they would not be playing them either. I honestly think that most of the parents must not know some of the things that go on in these games. The last straw for me on that game was when he showed me that you could pick up a prostitute and then blow her away when you are finished with her! Now granted, he might not have understood the whole scene there, but that is still not something I want my child exposed to at 10! I have also heard form some of my adult friends that the new Grand Theft Auto that is out now is way worse than the others. (Still all the killing and language, and some quite questionable weapons you can use.) I think that the government needs to regulate these ratings alittle more, they want to censor everything else. Why not something that the majority of the United States youth is hooked on! Just my opinion!!!

I know that the Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is supposed to be really bad. They had a segment on the Today Show about it and the guy said it's definitely not a game that you would want your kids to play. My son will be 11 on Sunday and sometimes when I don't let him watch something or do something he will say well so and so can and I always tell him that I'm not so and so's mother. I'm only responsible for him. I can't stop parents from letting their kids do certain things but I can control what I allow my son to be exposed to at home. It's really hard when the kids go to school and learn stuff from other kids, especially things that they probably shouldn't even know about at their age. You just hope that your child will know right from wrong regardless of what the other kids are doing.

I have 11 year old twins and I won't. Went to BB and one wanted San Andres and they told me that parents were complaining to them that they (BB) rented it to adults for kids. I will let them get smack down and the one Grand Theft but not the SA one.

Mur lets his 15 yr. old son play games on his Playstation 2 but he only has cars, racing, customizing, etc. That's where his interest lies. I think he has a few basketball games. But Mur wouldn't tolerate some of the games out there. His 12 yr. daughter has no interest, just phoning friends and AIM. My other grandson in town likes the football and basketball ones but his parents would never tolerate any violent games of any kind. When our boys were little I remember Pac Man and Mur still plays it
