What to give a 7 1/2 yr old boy?

I just don't see anything that looks interesting.

I did get the videoo game system they have at radio shack that you actually have to get up and play with the bowling, baseball and Tennis.
Santa usually brings the big gift, and I need help with what to get from me.

He loves video games but I am sick of contributing to that addiction.

He has tons of legos he only wants to play with if I make it, same with kinex.

    Help!

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post.

If he has someone to play with, an air hockey table is awesome. i bought this for my kids when they were young and they love it. You can get a tabletop version or get a free-standing model for about $99

This might be kind of unorthodox, but my son is a PS2 AND lego-atic, so I tried thinking of something to get him out and moving around. BUT it had to be interesting and fun ( only child - not easy...only get step daughters every other week.) To make a short story LONG , I bought him a metal detector! They have some neat ones at several of the toy stores for little of nothing and its great exercise PLUS they really get into finding ' treasure'. They can be used in the backyard or when you go to the park. He played with his old one for a LONG time - he is older now and we got him another this year that is a bit more sophisticated. Worked for him!

How about some action figures? Popular ones now include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers (my 6 year old loves them). Books are also a great idea--and www.bookcloseouts.com have the greatest deals! (but you may want to see what their shipping time is). Amazon/ToysrUs has a toyfinder based on ages. They also sell books.

How about some sports equipment? A baseball/pitchback game, football, rollerskates or blades?

I know what you mean about feeding the videogame addiction. Instead of playing virtual baseball, kids should be out "doing it" themselves. But these are different times. My son (and I) love video games.

I hate contributing to the video game addiction too, but I did find a good deal on a 3 pack of PS2 games at WalMart near me. The titles are Ford Racing 2, Corvette and Super Trucks. They are all packaged together in a yellow trimmed holder and believe it or not, they are only $10 for the whole set.

My son just turned 7 and my parents got him one of those "Air Hog" remote controlled airplanes from Radio Shack. It was $20 and he thinks it is really cool. He's been playing with it ever since he opened it.

The metal detector is also a great idea. I might just have to look into one of those too.

Toobers & Zots (Zowy) 29.99. My son is almost 7 and loves them. I ordered a set from Mailjust4me.com. They even sent a little card with a sucker in the box. Here's a link to what the Toobers & Zots are http://www.mailjust4me.com/crafts/zowy.htm

Sears has table top games on sale for 15 bucks off, like hockey and soccer.

Anyone know if these are any good?
