USMC Mess Night Questions...Anyone? HELP!
OK, My brother's Young Marines platoon is having their own "Mess Night" for the first time. They have basically left all the planning and work to just a few of us, with very short notice, and we were just told that the menu, etc., needs to adhere as closely as possible to a traditional Marine Corps Mess Night. Does anyone have any experience in this department? I've looked online, and seen that the traditional Main Course is Prime Rib...is that right? HELP!!!!

I can only think of Gomer Pile and him in trouble peeling potatoes. I would never have guess Prime Rib, maybe spaghetti but never that....Good Luck.

Re: USMC Mess Night Questions...Anyone? HELP!
I guess it's a very formal dinner, and when the Marines do it, it's accompanied by lots of alcohol and fun times. We have to manage to make it fun for them, following the same traditions, but obviously, without the alcohol. The CO gave us a "blank check" to cover the food, etc, but we've never put this kind of thing together before, especially not on such short notice. This is happening SATURDAY NIGHT! Yikes! I need to find examples of the menu or hear from maybe someone who's attended one...I don't know...just kind of trying to figure out how to accomplish this and make it work.
Edited to add...this is for about 120 people!

Re: USMC Mess Night Questions...Anyone? HELP!
DH was in the Marines, but is asleep right now. You'll probably get help with this before I get a chance to ask him, but I'll still ask as soon as I can & let you know what he says. I have heard him talk about eating a lot of different things while in the Marines, but never prime rib...lol.

Re: USMC Mess Night Questions...Anyone? HELP!
Can't you ask your brother to find out what is the tradional meal for this is?
Or contact the CO to find out? I would assume someone on the post would know. Ask the mess hall staff on post they should know. Good Luck.

Re: USMC Mess Night Questions...Anyone? HELP!
My brother's just 13, and this is an event that's traditional in the Corps but these are "Young Marines" and they've never put one on before. The CO has given us a few ideas, but has basically just dropped it in the lap of the few parents who volunteer to help out. We have no mess hall, no mess hall staff. This is just a program kids can join. We meet at a church building right now, and have permission to use their facilities.

Re: USMC Mess Night Questions...Anyone? HELP!
Just talked to DH & he said Mess Night is basically an officer's thing so he never went to one. (he was a sgt.) Anyway, he says it was more of a "liquid diet" than anything else....a chance for all the officers to get together & unwind without being seen. Wish I could help you more, but that's about all he knows...or is telling...lol.
I wanted to check those links that Jaidness put in here, but for some reason I can't get links to work for me in BBS & was too lazy to C&P
Anyone else have that problem?
Hope you find the info you need.
