According to this site a child should have two godmothers and one godfather if the child is female and a male should have one godmother and two godfathers. This is the first time I've heard of that. I'm not Christian so my kids don't have godparents but the link might be helpful.

No, it's not unheard of... some friends of ours picked us as godparents and another couple as well (he picked one and she picked one). We declined... as happy as I would be to do it, we just had bad feelings about it... anyways, I always thought it was a Catholic thing instead of a Christian thing, but I guess almost everyone is doing it now.

being catholic i find that some (Not all some im not flaming here jmho) pick godparents like they are picking people for a party.. being a godparent is about fulfilling the religious purpose of the child..

As stated in Canon Law 872-874, there are specific requirements in choosing a Godparent. You are only required to have one Godparent, but two are fine. However, they must be of opposite sex. If there is only one, a Christian witness might be asked. A Christian witness needs to be a baptized Christian. In fact, the Godparents must be baptized.
The Godparents need to be a Catholic who has had the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and Confirmation. They can’t be the baby’s mother or father. The Godparents must not be bound by canonical penalty. The Godparent must be mature and be sixteen or older. They must want to be a Godparent and be willing to help teach the faith to the child if necessary.
Godparents must be present in the baptism to say their commitment. They should be available to help the parents and they should be close to the family. They need to be a good Christian example.
After you have chosen the Godparent and they accepted, you might want to include them in picking out the Baptismal garment and candle. You should feel free to call on them for help and be welcome in your home.
dh and i fought for weeks cause he wanted his sister.... i didnt.. shes not a practicing catholic..
what im trying to get at is that it is your child.. your beliefs... if you have a minister or priest ask them first... have them help you..
There's nuthing u cant froogle or snope!

Re: God Parents question.....
I am a born-again Christian who was raised under the Episcopalian doctrine. We, like other 'liturgical' doctrines, have Godparents. And...as posted earlier...if it was a girl, she had two Godmothers and one Godfather. If it was a boy then there were two Godfathers and one Godmother.

Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

Re: God Parents question.....
Our boys have 2 sets of Godparents - DH's sister & her husband
and my sister & her husband.
One of my nieces has 2 Godmothers and no Godfather.
It's a personal decision on the part of the baby's parents.
