Question Would this be rude to ask?

I am having my second baby and it is going to be a boy. I was thinking of having a celebration party for this baby. That way, if people want to bring a gift that would be great but they are not required to. All I would be asking is to come, eat, and have fun. Would that be too rude of me to ask my friends?

Please don't flame me for asking....I am truely looking to see if this would be an okay thing to ask.

Sounds like a great idea to me.
Sometimes, the good you do doesn't do you any good.

Is that kind of like a shower or is it something you're going to do after the baby is born?

It would not be a shower, just having my friends, including spouses and kiddos, come over and have a party before I have the baby.

My kids are eight years apart. When I was pregnant with our daughter, we threw a baby shower / oyster roast so that we could have everyone we know (men and women) help us celebrate. A great time was had by all. Everyone brought gifts (not that we asked) and most contributed a dish. I say go for it. What better excuse for a party could you ask for than the gift of a new life.
I love work. I could stare at it all day.

While I think having a party is a great idea...I personally think it sounds like an excuse to get gifts...even if you aren't asking for them.

You are celebrating your new baby. When people celebrate babies...they bring gifts. It is simply what we do.

Is anyone offering to give you a shower. If so...make it a co-ed one.

    JMHO...
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.
