Lost W2, please advise!
I lost my W2s for 2001 and I need it by monday or I will not get the job I am seeking. Does anyone know how to get another W2 or does anyone know if H and R Block might have a copy of the w2s? I went to them these last couple of years and I know they took copies of them, I'm just wondering if they might have them still...Any advice?

I think they have to keep all that on record for a certain amount of time???
Also, contact your employer for that time period too if you can. They have to keep copies too.

Yes, H and R Block should have the copies. I believe they keep them for 2 years.
Good Luck on the new job!
If the mailman knew that my heart races when the UPS man comes by, would he still bring me freebies?

I am employed by H&R Block and know that they keep records for at least 7 years. If you went to them in 2001, they will still have the copies. Call first as there may not be anyone in the offices until tax season.

Why on earth would you need a W2 from an old job to get a new job??? I have never heard of anything like that.

Ditto. They should not be able to say you can't have the job because you can't produce a W2 for that year, actually, I would check to see if it is legal for them to even ask for it. (you need to call the labor board)

There are a lot of reasons to require a W2 from a former employer:
1. To show proof that you are worth what you are asking for (salary history)...
2. To show that you ACTUALLY were employed by someone, during that time frame...
3. To give your prospective employer a legal name and TIN (tax ID number) of the company you claim to work for, so they can contact them...
4. to prove that you are eligble to work (or were, at that time)...
