A question about walmart and refunds

The other day I sent my daughter in to swap a pair of shoes(I had purchased with a credit card) well instead of letting her just swap them they gave her the money-well tonight I had a layaway I canceled and had paid down with my credit card well I wanted the money credited back to my card and was told they could not do that-that they had to give me cash-when did this start? Any other times at any of the stores I had been to including walmart they had to have the exact credit card and credit money back to card???My sister said they were not supposed to give cash but credit it back to my card(she worked at walmart a few years ago)
What are ya'lls opinions on this?

I work at Walmart, granted not at the service desk, but I was under the same impression your sister was, that they were supposed to credit it back to the card. The only time I know of them giving cash/gift cards instead of putting it back on the card is during Christmas returns. Maybe it's a new policy at that store....I'll ask tomorrow at work though and maybe I'll have a better answer for you afterwards.....

I returned some stuff the other day that I had charged. The lady told me that they could give me cash if I wanted (even though I had the receipt), so I got 1/2 cash & had her put the other 1/2 back on my card.

not here, ihope they did not change it, I hate have cash it burns a hole in my pocket. LOL I always have them put it back on my card!!

When I returned the monitor I bought at Wal-Mart they gave me cash,said they could not put the $ back on my debit card. Same thing when I cancelled a layaway. They used to put it back on your card, no thoer options. Don't know why they changed the policy but I dont like it.

I do not like it either-maybe I'll send a complaint to them-it used to be very strict and the only option you had was put it back on card-looks like they could have least gave us an option on how we want it done afterall its our credit card and our money

Here in central NC they always give cash. They told another family member that they have had too many problems trying to put cash back in credit cards so they stopped that policy. But as far as the return policy, I think they'd take dirty underwear and give you your money back. I have returned things and they always give me the full price cash amount. I don't understand that at all.
