Dixie Chicks To Shun Country Music?
Dixie Chicks To Shun Country Music?
The Dixie Chicks have indicated they want to sever ties with country music, after the backlash they suffered earlier this year. During an interview with German magazine Spiegel, group member Martie Maguire expressed how she and bandmates Natalie Maines and Emily Robison feel detached from the whole scene. She says, "We don't feel part of the country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more." Their main grievance is based on the lack of support shown to the trio during the backlash of Maines' comments against American president George W. Bush earlier this year. Maguire adds, "A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that was it. The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen." Maguire also points to the fact that country radio is still not playing the trio's music, and that country award shows have seemingly shut the door on them. She notes, "Instead, we won three Grammys against much stronger competition. So we now consider ourselves part of the big rock'n' roll family."
Could someone PLEASE just make them go away? I don't want them to be part of the rock-n-roll family!!!!!!

I fully support the Dixie Chicks so I'd be happy for them to dump the country music scene and head on over to the rock'n' roll side!

I wish they'd shun ALL music. Or at least Natalie Maines. I can't stand her and I can't stand that whiny, raspy, yelling voice she calls singing. I don't want her singing in any venue. And if they don't feel apart of country music any more, they brought (NM) on themselves. Oh boo hoo for them.

Be who you are and say what you feel, those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Toby said something against what they had said and Natalie showed up at an awards show with a T shirt that said F.U.T.K.

I cannot TELL you how many FUNM and FUDC teeshirts there were at his concert here in STL on August 1st. Hundreds. And the best one I saw was on a little 5 or 6 year old girl. It said, "This chick loves Toby Keith." They alienated themselves from a genre of music that has very strong patriotism. Not that ALL music doesn't have very patriotic performers, but I think country music artists are more 'public' (for lack of a better word) and have much stronger feelings than is displayed by other genres of music. And I'm not favoring one genre. I listen to everything (except rap) from heavy metal to opera. Dixie Chicks cut their own throats. Or Natalie Maines did it for all three of them.

Uhhh hello! They said Merle was one of the only ones that had nice words for them!!
Besides they need to live with the consequences of their stupid words and they were not exercising their freedom of speech in the US. That is what made it so incredibly dumb!
They open their mouth...and stupid falls out

I personally like them, like their music, and will continue to buy their CDs as long as they keep making them.

Exercising your right to freedom of speech is one thing. Doing it intelligently and tactfully, particularly when you are a VISIBLE part of the entertainment industry, is another.
