Help I am breaking out- any ideas??

I am at my wit's end. I know this isn't the end of the world but this is driving me crazy. I'm on antibiotics right now for acne & it doesn't seem to be helping. I asked my dermatologist if it could be hormonal and she said the b.c. pills I'm using right now would have helped if it was. I don't know what the heck is up then. It's not like I've changed my habits or done anything differently. Has anyone else been in this situation? I don't even feel like going out of the house anymore because it makes me feel so ugly.

P.S.- I have considered trying that Pro-Topic cleansing system, but my skin is so sensitive PLUS I have eczema so I don't know if it would irritate my skin further.

Sorry you're having this problem. I was reading in either Cosmo or Jane magazine that it's a common myth that certain foods cause break outs so it's probably not anything you're eating. The last type of birth control pills I was on was Ortho Tri-cyclen and I never had a problem with acne during that time. What particular birth control pill are you taking if you don't mind me asking?

I guess it could be a common myth that foods affect our skin, but it depends on how you look at it. For instance, ppl who typically eat fried foods have oilier skin types. And chocolate, which almost all of us eat because we're depressed and it makes us feel better, actually CAUSES depression. I never would have bought that one, but hubby asked me for one week to stop eating chocolate (cause I already have issues w/ depression as it is) w/out telling me why. Reluctantly I did and you would not believe how much better I felt. He then explained to me why he asked me and I didn't believe him, but he showed me the webpage he'd read it at (I'll get him to give me the link). Anyways, if chocolate can affect our balance and hormones than it would seem fair to conclude that since most acne is a result of hormone changes that the food we eat can in fact cause break outs indirectly.

I wish I knew a remedy for the break outs... I do the worst thing in the world for my skin, and that's wash my face w/ regular body soap... but if your meds aren't working and your doc won't change them then I think it's time to find a new dermatologist who will try different things until they find what will work for you.

I can't remember which magazine I read it in so I did a search to see if I could find the article but I came across some other information.

    Pimples and Chocolate
    July 29, 2003

    Question

My mom and dad tell me that chocolate causes zits or pimples. Is this true or not, and is there proof?

    Answer

There is no connection between pimples and food habits. While it's a myth that eating chocolate causes pimples, stress can aggravate your skin. When you are stressed your need increases for stimulants such as chocolate.

    Does Chocolate Cause Acne?

Eating chocolate, or for that matter any other foods, does not cause acne. The only way chocolate causes acne would be to rub chocolate on the skin until it clogs the pores, causing a mechanical blockage of the pore openings. Then you can legitimately say chocolate causes acne. Some studies in the past indicated perhaps that excess amounts of some iodine-containing foods, such as shellfish, could influence the severity of acne. This has been questioned by a number of other recent studies, however. My recommendation is to eat, drink and be merry in moderation of all foods. Until these studies prove us wrong, we cannot say chocolate causes acne.

    Chocolate and Acne
    Question:

Does chocolate cause acne (or make it worse)?

A: No. And we'd like to dispel this myth once and for all! Several studies over the past three decades have failed to find a link between chocolate and acne. In a 1969 study by doctors from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, 65 subjects with moderate acne ate either chocolate bars containing 10 times the amount of chocolate found in a typical bar or otherwise identical bars with no chocolate in them. Test subjects who consumed the excessive amount of chocolate for four weeks didn't show signs of increased acne.

tea tree oil works for me most of the time. IT's really depressing to be in my late twenties and have skin issues.

Also, I read that taking an aspirin reduces the swelling in them...I trtied it the other day adn I thought it did.

here is what has worked for me
loreal pure zone -especially the toner, but I use the cleansing scrub and moisturizer as well
1 stress tab vitamin daily-the b vitamins and zinc in it is supposed to help your acne
also started using aromaleigh mineral make up instead of the regualr crap I was using before. You can even sleep in this stuff without it affecting your skin. Its awesome.
Also, while I do not believe acne is directly linked to diet, you could have food allergies without knowing it and that could be causing it too. www.healthboards.com acne forum has lots of info that can help you
    good luck
