I use to shut mine down completly.......but my computer is broke and my brother is living with us right now and I use his computer and he never ever shuts it down. When he is at work I shut it down when I think about it.

I shut down. I have a cable modem and I don't want any thing or any one hacking into my computer just because they can. It's easier just to go ahead and shut down than to deal with all of the garbage that might happen.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

During the day...The computer is left on in the sleep mode when not in use...which is fine to do. Before going to bed I shut my computer down for the night ...I have a Apple Imac
