When i did my taxes for last year we have 3 children, only 2 qualified for the child tax credit, the 3rd was born Dec of 85 so he missed it. Anyways i was able to get the Max for the child tax credit, it was $600 per child. We were just about $800 over to recieve the EIC. So if i'm correct we should be recieving something on this new child tax credit increase. Oh we made last year total $35,906 So we will see What happens.

You know I was reading through the web site even more and I still dont understand why we at least arent going to get anything. Dh's parents recieved a check for $400 yesterday, one child at home. and they clamed the same as we did last year. there was like a $200 diffrence between their gross income and ours. We did get a child creadit thingie with last years tax returns, is that why we wont get a check now? I am confused about this. Someone help me out please?
Do you have any outstanding student loans, or anything that the IRS will keep for something you owe? I do know thats the only way we might not get our check, my hubby has a student loan and we might not get it because of that.

Web site is down. I worry about putting the SS# in. I just don't like doing that.

I don't understand who you mean. I mean, just about anyone I know could use that money. But, people who got the big EIC, like we did, because our income wasn't crap last year, basically got paid to file a tax return. So this is not some ploy to get back at anyone. We paid in for years without kids and got taxed to death and then, even with kids, since my DH made a decent living up until 2002, our refunds sucked rocks. I am glad we got our refund and that it was big this year. But, I am not going to whine and piss about something we are NOT entitled to.

Here we go again!
You are not getting this money because you did not pay any taxes! Plain and simple. And if you got Earned Income Credit, you got back more than you paid in. I have explained this a few times, some people just do not want to understand.
Some mornings it's not worth the effort of chewing through the restraints.

I wasn't referring to ME! I was talking about the single moms out there who struggle to raise kids on their own.
The EIC is a wonderful reward for people who work for low wages but aren't on welfare. Most of the people who qualify for the EIC are struggling to get by honestly. It just seems to me that they should also benefit from any tax breaks that come along.
I certainly understand the point that if someone doesn't pay taxes they shouldn't get a refund. I just think that a lot of the new benefits are not helpful to low income families.
I am entitled to my opinion, and I certainly don't need anyone to explain this tax benefit to me, as I am a CFO.

I wasn't trying to be rude, only trying to understand why you are complaining if you got the high end of EIC, IF in fact you did. I don't know your life or your profession. I keep hearing things like what you said, and I just do not understand. I have even heard this is a conspiracy against minorities!!! How ridiculous!!!
We paid taxes in for YEARS married without kids. They tax you to death. I think some single people without kids should get cut some slack too. I think we ALL could use some of our hard earned money back. I was hoping to get the $400 but hey, I got a huge refund in March, so I am ok with it. I hope you do not leave the forums but if you do simply becuase people do not agree with you, then I guess it is up to you.

No, neither one of us has had a student loan or anything like that. All the site says when I put our info in is 'form 1040A, Line 36' that is about all it is saying. No idea what it means though lol
