A dog sits waiting...
A Dog sits Waiting.
A dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun.
To faithful to leave, to frightened to run.
He's been here for days now with nothing to do
but sit by the road waiting for you.
He can't understand why you left him that day.
He thought you and he were stopping to play.
He sure you'll be come back and thats why he stays.
How long will he suffer? How many more days?
His legs have grown weak, his throat's parched and dry.
He's sick now with hunger and falls, with a sigh.
He lays down his head and closes his eyes.
I wish you could see how a waiting dog dies.

This brought tears to my eyes. One of my furkids, Galaxy, the sweetest, most gentle dog you could ever meet, was found chained up behind a house. His "owners" had moved out and left him there to die. He was rescued in the nick of time, and although he was emaciated and near death, he survived. We adopted him from Missouri Pitbull Rescue about a year ago and he is SUCH an angel baby. I will never understand how anyone could live with themselves after hurting an innocent creature.
Forever missing our baby boy. One hour in this world, always in our hearts. April 5, 2005

That was a great poem! Too bad more people don't realize the impact we have on an animals life.

Thanks Ravenlost and Sharibo for sharing your stoies. It is indeed a common and tragic habit for people to dump dogs in farm country thinking that the dogs will find homes on nearby farms. This poem was written by one such farm-wife (some-where in the midwest) who had seen it happen much too often. Ravenlost, thanks for the link to your pup's pictures-he is positively huggable!
Sharibo, did you see the one I posted called 'With Love from a lonely Dog'? That would really remind you of your Galaxy.
