Does anyone know if this is the going rate?
My oldest son had an awards night at his high school yesterday and received his block letter last night and I was told that to purchase the jacket and have his letter and patch sewn on it is going to cost me $380. Does anybody know if this is the going rate for High School jackets?
Thanks for the info.

PURCHASE?????????????
my high school bought mine (just 10-12 yrs ago so not that long really), we earned them, and our patches, on a point system.
never heard of buying your letter jacket.
Hate is easy. Loves takes courage.

He earned the block letter on the point system but we have to purchase the jacket and have it sewn on.

I got mine maybe 6 years ago and I paid 250 for the jacket and 25 for them to sew on the letter and numbers. What is the jacket made of? that might make a difference.

Gosh... I remember when I was in high school (that was when girls had to wear skirts to school). My brother earned a letter. Most guys bought a sweater then, not a jacket. I remember that the sweater was very expensive at the time...and yes...my parents bought it! The letter and subsequent emblems were given to him...but not the original sweater.
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

I was shocked when I was told the price. I was expecting to pay maybe under $200. But it sounds like that is what the going rate is. Boy high school has sure gotten expensive.

6 years ago when I earned my letter, my parents had to buy my letterman's jacket......I think my mother caught it on and end of season clearence sale and got it for around $250 and it even had the leather sleeves, but that was very unusual. Wish I could be of more help.....

congrats for him on the block letter.

Yep, that's about the rate of them- which is why I don't want mine. I got a letter for color guard, and I framed it. I think it's kinda pricey for a jacket that I will hardly ever wear, because I'm not a jacket person.

Thank You Odyssey, I am really proud of my son.
And Suziebee20, my son takes so much pride in being in AFJROTC that I want to do this for him. I was just shocked at how expensive the jackets cost.
Good job for getting your block letter in color guard. Your parents must have been so happy. Isn't ROTC the best. My son ha gone from a shy type of person to a young man who feels so self confident about himself. From what I have learned high schoolers in ROTC become one happy family. It is GREAT!!!!!!!
