Military support organization thread....CAN'T FIND...
I responded to a thread on here a week or so ago and got a name of a soldier that didn't receive mail from home....I just wanted to give you guys a heads up on rules at the post office, as I had never done anything like this and was really surprised. First of all, even though I only had an APO address, some restrictions came up on the thingy @ the P.O.......you cannot send any religious material that is contrary to ISLAM, you cannot send any nude pictures (no playboys, etc!), no pork products (pork rinds, etc!!!), and you have to list everything in your box on a customs form. Just thought you guys might want to make a list before you sealed your box, as I had no idea I would need to do this!

The military support board is always at the top of OTC..
Also, no alcohol...
and I don't write down cigs on the customs declaration paper...you have to pay extra or they do,,, not too sure, but was told not to put it down. All that I've sent have made it just fine.

Thanks for the heads up!

You don't have to put everything on the custom forms. I have been doing this for awhile and you can generalize and it is a lot easier. I put snack items to cover all food items. I put toiletries to cover non food items. I put magazines to cover reading material. I downplay the value too so no one tries to 'take' the box before it reaches the destination. There also can not be any scantily clad women as well as nude. Also nothing with the words Christ on it anywhere which means no Merry Christmas cards or anything with Jesus, God, etc on it. Well as you said anything religious that is not Islam.
Like you Shanncopp I do not put down tobacco products. Also you are not supposed to send pressurized cans like hairspray and the cheese stuff in a can. Priority gets there faster. It is best not to insure as it slows things down. Also in case of something coming up and you do not want your box back put down Chaplain at whatever place you are mailing to or captain of such and such group for the box to be routed to someone if it can not go to your soldier.

OOPS! I've sent dh lots of "cheese in a can!" and I
just sent a Blender magazine!!! LOL! It made it.
He asked me to send some Pork Rinds, too. I guess if
they find them, I can just say I didn't know.

What happened to the anthrax scare? I thought we couldn't send anything to the military cause of that.

Lol, Shancopp. I have sent Blender as well. I don't mind taking the risk but if they do decide to open the box and find something offensive I was told they may just throw out the entire box. You can do as someone suggested at another place and make clothes out of construction paper and 'cover' the women and you dh can have a nice laugh and 'technically' they are 'covered' up, lol!
