Advice needed......
My 12 year old son has saved up some money and he wants to buy a used computer for his room. He wants the computer to have windows95/98 and to be able to play games on it. We have spent the last couple days making phone calls to different stores to no avail. My hubby is real leary of e-bay and those types of transactions. Does anyone have any ideas. He has worked hard to save up his money and he keeps getting discouraged because he can't find anything in his price range. So if anyone has any links or places I can check please let me know. Thanks

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, can you give me an idea of his price range? I might have more ideas that way.
Have you tried calling different computer stores? They might know of someone wanting to sell an old one.
OH! BTW, the computer I am on right now came from Ebay. I got it CHEAP! It is a 40 gb hd, 128 mb ram, Win XP yadda yadda yadda, for $350 shipped. If you buy from someone with GREAT, STERLING feedback, you will be fine.

Have you checked any of the rent to own places like Rent A Center? My BIL bought a used one from them in Ohio for $200.00.

cpbaby, so far he has saved up a little over $100. I have very little knowledge about computers and I have no clue on where else to tell him to look.
We have called different stores that sell rebuilt used computers and the lowest price range with the monitor and all is $150, and the stores have been telling him that since they are older they won't work with games. If we find one that is out of his price range and a great deal, I will help him(even tho he wants to do this himself). He is real proud that he has saved up this much.
Thanks for the info, I will keep looking. All he wants it for is to just play games on, since we don't want too many games installed in this pc because they take up too much memory.

Thanks robinA, he is going to call those kinda places tomorrow. That is a great idea.
It has been real cute listening to his phone calls to the computer stores. He is asking all the right questions (I think) and sounds so grown up.

My son did the same thing. His favorite site for computers is www.computergeek.com They give great prices and have a good return policy. You can buy refurbished there and get great deals.
